Dont be under any illusions about the ALDI charger it is nowhere near as good as a CTEK. Ive got both and I did a mini review for the caravanning fraternity.

As a layman all seems pretty much good quality to me. Like you say it charges the battery.

As far as I know the Aldi doesn’t have the capability to charge in cold conditions, recondition batteries or act as a PSU which my CTEK does. BMW i3 Electric Car

The Ctec isn't withouts it's faults though. I've got 3 of the them, and have had issues with them all. Some won't charge when they are cold (must be brought inside to heat up first), some require multiple attempts to actually register that it's supposed to start charging, some just stop charging half way, and must be re-started.

I have 3 C-Teks and 2 work perfectly. The other has stopped allowing me to change the mode which is not too terrible as it's stuck on the regular charge mode with the car icon.

The 'current' (forgive me) Aldi one has a fast charge 6v standard mode, a 12v 0.8A standard charge mode a 12v 3.8A fast charging mode AND a 12v 3.8 Cold charge mode as well as the trickle charging. The manual also confirms a reconditioning and reactivation function as well as the usual overheat cut out and polarity protection.
