Key battery problem.

Help please,
I am away from home at my son’s wedding and just got key low battery warning.
I had a new battery available so decided to change it, but ever since I am getting key not recognising message.

I luckily have the spare key with me, but , it has not been used for quite a while and , you can guess... key low battery warning.
I can’t risk changing the battery in the second key at least until I get home.
How long do they last with low battery warning .? Just keeping fingers crossed.

Any ideas for me to try and fix No1 key?
I will get a new battery as soon as possible but the one I fitted was new and still sealed.

Hi Mike, if you have your IID tool with you , you could try re coding the key, it only takes 2 mins. Congrats to your son Thumbs Up 2015 4.4 AB

My apologies if this is slightly off-topic but when you change the battery in one of the remote key fobs, do you have to re-sync the keys so that you maintain the driver personalization settings that are designated to that key number?

I don’t know what key you have but I’ve read about people changing keys and dropping the little black but that links to the car, sounds like it looks like a small piece of plastic but it’s inportant. Someone with more knowledge than me will explain more I’m sure.

Thanks all.
Stan, I have just retried key No 1, but it appears dead.
I will have to hope No2 lasts , but I am away until Saturday PM.

I presume they don’t need re coding after a battery change, but if it still doesn’t work after a second new battery, it will be the next step.

There are a few posts on here that suggest that the remotes can be sensitive to the brand of battery. Might be worth trying to get hold of a different brand. Duracell seem to get mostly positive comments and worked for me. 2011 5.0 S/C

Friday morning update.
Key No 1.
I have removed the new battery and re-fitted the original battery.
It works again, but obviously still giving Low battery. message.
New battery is obviously faulty.
Both are Maxcell.

I will buy 2 new Duracell on way home or ASAP.
Thanks for help.

Thanks Stan.
All went well.

I have just opened a brand new strip of 5 Maxwells CR2032 batteries, dated Expiry date 12-2024 and out of 4 of them in Fob No.2 not one works. That fob had a Panasonic. battery in which I have refitted, and it works perfectly, but is giving low battery warning.
I have just ordered a pack of 6 Panasonic CR 2032 off eBay and will retest when they arrive

Updated Monday 14th Jan.
I did in fact buy new Duracell type batteries, and as soon as I fitted them to both fobs, all was well .
Both keys worked perfectly with no re- coding.
