MOT pass, but ........

There is an advisory that I don't fully understand:

Suspension arm pin or bush worn but not resulting in excessive movement nearside and offside front lower [5.3.4 (a) (i)]

Could someone please translate this for me and give me an indication how urgent you feel this is and how much it may cost?

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like the front lower control arms.

The MOT changed recently so the testers have to identify any item worthy of note, but the fact that it passed indicates that the control arms will need to be replaced, but is not urgent or unsafe.

Cost wise will depend on how good you are with spanners. It's doable at home if you have the tools and can use them.

Its a relatively generic comment - the tester just picks from a pre determined list for the one that is nearest. Most cars have similar suspension set up but some of course are more complex with added links / arc bars etc etc. Shocked

I tend to have a view if one is worn or nearly worn , then the others are probably not too far behind. I just had all front suspension bushes changed and the road holding difference was quite noticeable after. (not that it was dangerous before)

Mine failed the Irish DOE recently on a worn wheel bearing ( rear drivers side) i took it to my trusty indie who pronounced that all was good BUT the passenger side lower bushing was worn badly, he changed all bushings ( lower) on both sides and took the RR back for retest and all good !!!! Not to paint all with the same brush but maybe get a second opinion before cbanging anything !!! 2015 4.4 AB
