L405 4.4 SDV8 Drive Train

Hi Guys new to this group thanks for adding me, my first question is my 2014 4.4sdv8 has a quite noticeable drive train thump when on and off the gas at low speed and sometimes on the motorway , I’m thinking transfer box wear but the dealer is saying that LR advise a two flush of the transfer box will sort it, I’m not convinced it seems more mechanical than fluid, I’m not unduly worried as she’s covered by LR extended warranty, just wondered had anyone else experienced the same problem, she’s only done 42k miles. Thanks in advance

Welcome Thumbs Up

If it’s on warranty, then I think you’ll have to let them try their fix first. Always possible there is some crap in the fluid that is affecting the movement of a mechanical component.....

Thanks Alistar but the problem feels more like a worn component than a bit of swarf floating around the transfer box. It’s the delay in the prop taking up the torque from the gearbox that’s the problem . I’m going to let them do what they think always with Land Rover the cheapest fix first but I’m sure it’s no going to work. The previous visit I had to tell them the problem with the suspension knocking they replaced numerous bushes until i told them the ARC valve block was the fault Ann’s sure enough they changed it. These days they are not mechanics but fitters

A double flush then a re-calibration of the transfer case motor, not just a double flush. Its a known problem.

Thanks for that Graeme you’ve elaborated on the 19 year old service guys explanation. Will see, the other thing is there’s a strong smell of exhaust gases in the cabin when the car get upto temperature any views on that as it’s now been in twice and they have no clue. I’ve been advised a split egr pipe

Sorry, I can't help with the exhaust smell or comment on the possibility of a split EGR pipe. However its common for a fault for the EGR temp sensor A to be recorded which may add to any exhaust odours. The EGR temp sensor A fitted in production has been revised twice.

Thanks Graeme . Appreciate the temp sensor heads up. It’s disapointing that we have to self diagnose faults when booking in for a dealer prognosis.
