What's the ultimate aftermarket Android head-unit?

Since replacing an air strut the RR has behaved (relatively) well (aside from some electrical hiccups), one of which is a head-unit which intermittently flickers on and off (in combination with turn signals not working), so I thought it deserves an upgrade for Xmas.

The typical culprit for the current behavior is water ingress in a rear mounted module, but I see no reason to spend money on this antiquated hardware. So, most people seem to know the shared BMW roots opens some options in terms of keeping the steering wheel controls and driving computer through upgradeable apps that access the PDC. But what in the jungle of options in the hardware department that develop so fast, what is currently perceived to be the best choice?

Thanks in advance!

If I had to fit one it would be one of these. (Non touchscreen) https://avinusa.com/range-rover-l322-2002-...ystem.html

That looks nice and somewhat higher craftsmanship than the various (Chinese?) versions out there. Plus, a neutral OEMish look with the buttons and back-light.

However when I start specing this thing out with the necessary I-Bus adapter (so that it can communicate with PDC and on-board computer), DAB adapter and Android Auto, I'm looking at about 800 bucks - which is a fair bit more than what I want to spend (thinking my budget is about half that).

Do you have experience with the unit?

I have a pioneer Android Auto head unit and then a Pioneer amp in the back in place of all the original stack of DVD player and other stuff, much more compact now...

Still have the original speakers and running through this works very well indeed. Can either connect via bluetooth (for audio) or with USB (for maps etc).

How did you squeeze a 10" screen in there?

I was hoping there was a silver bullet and future-proof unit with everything I need (Android Auto, GPS, DAB+, I-Bus, etc.) in a sub-$400 package that is bolt-in.

I don't think there is a straight swap with no mods at all just some minor ones to get mine in mine was roughtly £300 with everything it was sort of plug and plays you do have to run the 6m lead from the back (thanks BMW) but once in its very good, and I think it updates the interior as well a bit

Seems like you can not see the top of the screen or does it just look like it on the photo?
Can you post some more pictures?

This looks like:

very slightly you cant see it but you can still use the functions and touch the right bit to split screen it
that is the same one I believe I got mine from.

This seem like a high quality unit, on par or better than Avin: https://www.car-vision.co.uk/landrange-rov...21178.html

In terms of sound quality for us audiophiles, this thing is probably hands down the best. Plenty EQ/DSP settings, time alignment, 24 bit-DAC, 4V pre-outs, etc. I believe they are German made. However, still on the expensive side for me and I think I much rather want Android OS for navigation, music, broswer, e-mail and just in terms of being "future proof".

Not sure if they are compatible in terms of canbus communication and OBC stuff? Or does any unit with a USB input work with the iBus app (https://www.ibus-app.de/index_en.html)?
