Starting issues

Hi,

My 2006 TD6 have some starting issues. Sometimes it starts and sometimes the starter want turn, there is only some "sound" from the center console, as in this video.
After a different number (5-50) of attempts it starts all of a sudden.
Battery is good, I have not noticed any special occation when it start/ don`t start, like cold, warm or so on.
Any help is appreciated.
NOTE: It`s not my car in the video but it`s exactlly like my car is doing.

Could be ignition switch, starter solenoid etc. The white box shown in the video is the immobiliser so I am a little concerned why somebody might be trying to bypass that.
I’ve not heard that noise before though.
The ignition switch has multiple feeds coming out of it.
Do you have access to any diagnostics ?

Thanks for your input.
I`m also thinking ignition switch or maybe the immobilizer. I was also thinking of the solenoid but I don`t think I should have that sound from the center consol if it is the solenoid.
But, I just recieved an answer on a different site where one guy had exactlly the same thing and it turned out to be the starter.
An IIDTool is on the way to my address Very Happy

BTW, I don`t think the guy in the video is trying to bypass the immobilizer, he has the same issue as I have and, as far as I understand, he`s troubble shooting Wink

You will probably have a strange mix of BMW and JLR parts if you have touch screen and the facelift front as the change over period was 2006 but you still have the BMW M57 diesel so it can be more difficult to diagnose. the EWS immobilizer in the 2005 TD6 changed to something that looks similar in the 06 but soesn't behave the same.
You can check your ignition switch by testing for 12 volts going to the starter and the relevant fuses. When I worked on one recently the ignition switch was only putting out 2 volts to some of the fuses.

The attachments below may not be exactly right for your vehicle but may give you an idea.

Make sure you get yourself a copy of rave from the wiki. You want workshop manual, system operation and description and also wiring diagrams if they are there
