Replaced front air struts, should I do rears too?

Recently replaced both front air struts (complete units) after one went BANG Big Cry on my 2003 TD6 (115k miles)

Should i consider changing the rears now? Or wait til they fail?

Failure after 15 years of use is a pretty good run.

I replaced my front EAS springs at 10 years, as the risk of failure seems to increase around this age and I was going on a big road trip. Im glad I did as both struts weren't doing much.

Indications are the rate of L322 rear spring failure is low. So unless you were going on a road trip or was going on some trip were recovery was difficult, I would wait. ______________________________

I'd replace them. I've just had one blow rather spectacularly on a bush track here in Australia, necessitating an expensive recovery- it couldn't be driven out due to how steep the tracks were. I'm yet to determine the cause of failure, but after 15 years perishing of the rubber is to be expected; the recovery people tell me that the bag has come adrift from the top plate, and that both the bag and retaining ring just fell out when the rear of the car was lifted.

The rears are very cheap in comparison... I would change both the air springs and the rear shockers and have her new all round Thumbs Up

Shes probably only done 20-25k (miles) in the last 9 years I've owned her, so may be why they've lasted longer than expected?

Cheers Craig, i took a look but could only find genuine LR rear springs at about £250 each? What brand do you recommend and where from please? For air springs and shocks

nosmo, interested too but the guys listed as living in Australia, so may be why its cheaper??

I'd like to know where decent branded bags and shocks can be had for a decent price. I priced up bags and Bilstein rear shocks at Island4x4 I think it came in at about £360+vat?? IIRC

wheres best to get new rear bags and shocks from? And are Bilstein rear shocks OK? (they were joint market leaders 20 years ago in my Ford days)

LR rears are quite pricey, but Bearmach's are £99 each and whilst I haven't had these parts from them (hopefully someone else can comment on quality) they've always been good when I've had other parts from them. Worth a look?
