Static on all radio channels

Suddenly I'm getting static on all radio channels. I've not been messing with the audio/bluetooth/nav stuff, so I presume something has broken or failed.

Can't see any moisture in rear cubby where everything lives. I do have an issue where one or two radio stations have static when the rear screen demister is on. Now, even with the rear demister off, I get static on all stations.

Is the rear screen element also the radio aerial? I ask because my rear screen demister is very patchy at clearing the rear screen.

Any other common issues/resolutions I can look for please?

Thanks Stan. Very useful.

I was thinking (dangerous I know Smile ), a couple of days ago I had a 'Transmission Fault - Traction Reduced' message a few times on startup. No fault codes were thrown and and I had 14.7 volts with the engine running. but I understand that this fault can be triggered by a failing battery.

Iirc it's to do with low voltage on startup. Is this correct?

When the radio had static on all channels yesterday it was dark and cold so I had a lights, aircon, heated seat, etc, etc, switched on.

Battery is 18 months old Yausa from Halfords - so still under guarantee. But could a failing battery be causing the radio static issue?

Edit: Ref Bad earth. How do I check this please?

@Scottyav. Nothing plugged in to AUX. However today no static on radio channels, but I did get the 'Transmission Fault - Traction Reduced' message on startup.

Again no relevant fault codes thrown.

So probably battery or earth?

I have had the same problem, mine was caused by the coat I was wearing. If the problem occurs, I exit the car close the door. remove said coat and get back in. works every time.

Hmm. OK. I'll try driving around in the nip to rule out clothing related issues. What could go wrong?
