Impossible to answer - there isn't a best - that's why there are options......

It depends on a whole host of other things

I always pay cash, and don’t use finance - my argument is a cash purchase has got to be the cheapest way as I am not paying any interest charges and not paying to borrow money.

The vehicle still has to be paid for and I can change when I want without having the hastle of chasing finance or paying it off. 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

Looking at it from a statistical point of view , how do people pay ? Would be useful if you gave a reason with your choice too .

Im quite double minded as to which route to take !

Not forgetting, and some on here will explain this much better than I, If you take finance for even a small amount of the purchase price there is often a dealer contribution of several thousand and you can pay the finance off almost immediately without penalty. It seems crazy but this was explained to us at the time of buying and it worked very well. We saved a lot with this with a £70K plus purchase with no hassle.

Thumbs Up

Take pcp as when you come to sell the GFV will be higher than actual worth.
Was royally shafted when i got rid of mine.
Will not have another!

@AM Tony

Shame the stealers enjoy the sport of shafting their customers. Never been offered a straight deal on a trade in , so always sold privately... of course they need a margin, but not as wide as the mouth of the Thames ! Filters are in fact so good that in certain circumstances, when the ambient air is already polluted, a diesel car will tend to extract more particles from the air than it emits. Emissions Analytics worked with........etc etc

My dealer just offered me about 5% less than WeBuyAnyCar versus a £115k new car. Shocking.

I got more than webuyanycar from my dealer. It was part ex so always a bit hard to tell what you're getting off the new car vs what you're getting for your old car, but I was quite happy.

I had my old RR L405 AB for over 4 years and it roughly cost me about £11k a year in depreciation. Not too horrendous in my mind, but others may disagree!

Oh and in terms of finance vs cash, I'm cash every time, but have to say I'm often tempted with some of the deals. I prefer the flexibility of cash though, and the feeling that the car is actually mine. 2024 Range Rover P550e AB

I think £11k per year is very respectable , much better than any other option I know of . Like Alistair mentioned earlier , not one definitive best way to purchase , but in your case EDJ I think you have done pretty good on £11k per year .

Have a look at the finance options because they usually give an additional discount on the purchase price and then settle within fourteen days, the cooling off period for such agreements.

I've had dealers (Merc) moan about this but legally there is nothing they can do, apparently..... none have so far. No interest charged, no penalties, just a reduced cost to me.

I will add, such behaviour used to beyond me but having been had enough times by dealers, whilst there may be a certain personal satisfaction in being completely open, that doesn't translate into respect received when you return to the dealership in the future, I've found.... they still try and squeeze as much as they can for providing as little as possible.
