Approach Lamp Control, Door mirrors.

Hi,

When I unlock 2012 L322 4.4 TDV8, the Puddle Lights Come One and the Mirrors unfold. However the Drivers side Puddle Light goes out as the Mirror starts to Unfol, whereas the Passenger Side Puddle Light remains lit. The drivers side used to be OK, but has not been working for a few months.

Any ideas if this is a 'setting' or fault ? Either way, anyway to solve it ?

Thx Bob

Many thanks Stan,

Any tips on Prising the Puddle Light out ? Knowing me I'll brake something. There's always a technique for these things.

Thx Bob

So, the problem has morphed, light night I observed that the Drivers Side puddle light was on permanently, I.e. Not just when the door was being unlocked.

I am having another problem with intermittent cut out of the engine when driving and so am beginning to think there many be an issue with one or more ECU's that control the vehicle. The other problem thread I have is http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic41392.html

Any ideas ?

So the situation is:

Unlock vehicle - Both Puddle Lights Fash, then Passenger side stays on, Drivers side switches off
Start vehicle - Passenger side switches off, Drivers side switches on and stays on whilst engine is running.
Stop vehicle - Passenger side remains unlit, Drivers side Goes Out
Open front door - Passenger side lights up when door opens, Drivers side remains off when door is opened.

The logic seems all wrong for the Drivers side puddle light.

Yes, yesterday, I had also tried disconnecting the PCM ECU for a separate issue and so had disconnected DD the battery -ve for 10mins.

Drivers Side - Approach Lamp, outer mirrors.

Still not solved this problem.
Earlier I referenced this as Puddle Lap problem, but I think the Door Mirror Lamps are actually Called Approach Lamps. Puddle Lamps are under the Doors.

It seems that the Logic for the drivers door has gone squiffy !!

Originally , they had worked perfectly since I owned the vehicle. About three months ago, I noticed the following problem.

- When I unlock the vehicle, - both Drivers Side and Passenger Side Approach lamps Flash On briefly
- The Mirrors (Drivers and Passenger Side) - Unfold
- Only the Passenger Side Approach lamp - Stays lit after the initial flash on the Unlock
- The Drivers Side Approach lamp - Remains Unlit.

However on starting the engine or just Pressing START but without the Brake Peddle Depressed, the Passenger Side Approach lamp switches off (Normal Operation). BUT The Drivers Side Approach lamp Lights up on starting the engine and remains illuminated throughout driving, until the engine is switched off.

It seem the Logic of the Engine being On / Off is reversed for the Drivers Side Approach lamp functionality.

I have been in Contact with GAP Diagnostics re the IIDTool options, but they are out of ideas.

For MY2012 4.4 TDV8, I understand that the control is just via a Driver Door Module.

I understand earlier models were operated via Relay in the Passenger Compartment Fusebox Relays - (Relay 5).

Does anybody have any further experience of the Approach Lamp control going wrong ?

Many thanks

Ok, I’ve purchased a replacement Drivers Door. O duke off eBay. Does anybody have access to Topix or a workshop manual to share how to change the Drivers Door Module ?

Many thanks

I have searched through the Workshop Manual, but still cant find the location of the Drivers Door Module.

Does anybody know if it is behind the door card or somewhere arround the Drivers Console ?
I'm sure someone must have replaced a Drivers Door Module at some point.

Many thanks
