United Kingdom 2009 Range Rover Autobiography TDV8 Santorini Black
Hello all newbie here

Hello everyone, i have stumbled across this site whilst spending many hours trawling the web looking at reviews etc of FFRR and my thoughts of joining the fold of ownership. Now I have never owned one of these beasts before but I have a massive hankering for a big solid car in my life, Even more so for a big V8 engine Laughing so what would be the best option for a newbie do we think? Save a bit and go for 2010 or later? Or would the pre 2010 models satisfy my itch accordingly?

Hello and welcome. Which one to go for would all deepend on your budget. The 2010 cars are more modern with the tft dash but buy on condition and have a read through the buyer guides and general issues to look out for. Rusty rear arches and tailgates are common on all though. Like everything else there are some money pits and some great ones. If you are handy at diy this can brimg the cost of ownership down dramatically. What are you driving now and whats prompted the interest in a ffrr? Good luck with it though Current 2007 TDV8 Vogue Buckingham Blue

Would rather not say what I'm driving now as it is a disgrace of a car lol. Always loved the look of the FFRR and prefer them to the sport, Have owned a VW Touareg before and just have the itch for a big 4x4 again. Handy withthe spanners (repair trains electrically and mechanically for a living) and know my way round the toolbox Laughing and TBH just want the V8 noise in my life, have looked at audi V8's but feel i need something bigger Smile

Sounds like you will be well qualifies to sort the range rover out. Definately better than the sport as much nicer inside than the disco in drag.

The diesel tdv8's are both great with the 4.4 being more refined wih the 8 speed box but the 3.6 is a great motor and reliable. Some will say there are egr and turbo issues with them but decent maintenace i think its well overblown, but some will disagree. Id go look at a few and drive them to get an idea of what feels right. Current 2007 TDV8 Vogue Buckingham Blue

Would a diesel V8 be better as opposed to a petrol guzzling monster? i have been looking generally at S/C models atm

A petrol is great but very thirsty but depends how many miles you do. The 4.2 is seen as the more reliable as i think there are timing chain issues on the 5.0 which came out in 2009 i think when the tft dash came in. If you can live with the low mpg it would be brilliant to have. A remaped diesel is also pretty rapid from what i hear but mine isnt mapped so cant comment Current 2007 TDV8 Vogue Buckingham Blue

If it’s just the V8 noise you want, I imagine it’s petrol you are after...

I love my 4.4 TDV8 though, and it still sounds nice when you give it the beans, but not like a Petrol V8.

Drive them all....then decide.

Have you actually heard a SC FF? They’re very quiet, don’t go expecting some big noise apart from when you floor it.

The only ones I have heard have all sounded rather beefy, presume they must of had aftermarket exhausts on.

Both the 4.2L SC and 5.0L SC are fairly quiet under normal driving conditions, however, when you hit the throttle hard, it literally growls like a beast awoken. 2010 RR SC

IMHO that's a little overpriced for a 14 yr old FFRR, although it does have the 2010-12 facelift and I think the Over Finch bodykit, all assuming its been done properly.

Having said that, it's a VSE so should have lots of the nice "bits" and in the pictures does look nice.

If it's that or a 3 yr old Ford Focus then I know what you (and many others) would want to have.

Check out the buyers guide in the wiki for things to be aware of when buying any FFRR. The mantra from others on here, and one I tend to agree with is to buy on condition rather than mileage.

I bought my first FFRR nearly 3 years ago now and my only regret is that I didn't buy one years ago. And it still makes me smile when I drive it Very Happy Very Happy 2017 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography

I have to say I was extremely disappointed with the exhaust note/engine note from my 4.2SC Sport, whereas my 4.4TDV8 FF sounds glorious even at low revs. Current: FF Westminster money pit

Gone:

RRS 3.6 TDV8

I've got aftermarket exhaust (was on when I bought it) and it sounds awesome when booting it.

Not my number plate btw.

I think someone is selling an SC on this forum mate. Dan
