changed wheels and tyres

Love the look of my later style wheels with their now 255 55 20 tyres. Had a bit of bother getting the original wheels off, swollen nuts etc, so new nuts coming. I painted the metal backing plates with Black Hamerite, the callipers with calliper paint and the rear drums with metallic silver paint the sort you put on metal railings etc. Looking very smart now. I will probably paint the front drums when I change the wheel nuts. Couple of pictures for you have a look at. Thumbs Up

General view

Rear wheel, you can't really see how nice the hubs look from this angle, you need to be looking down on them a bit.

+1...
Mine are fitted with Pirelli Scorpion Verde in 255 55 20 size, which just fits in the spare wheel well.

Just as a side note warning, I changed my wheels in my garage, door closed garage heater on, suspension in off road, jacked up using the correct jacking points with my new sprinter Jack, all went lovely till I pressed the garage remote for the up and over door. !!! Censored , Censored , arsoles Embarassed the garage door opened, hitting and breaking the high brake light, bounced along the car roof, many dents and deep scratches Evil or Very Mad would you believe it in my panic to stop the door it when the into reverse and did the same damage again closing itself Censored
Cost me £480 to have the damage made good, not as bad as it could have been, I had quotes, in excess off £700. All good now and I still love my new wheels, not quite the bargain I had before my cock up.

Got these wheels on my 2004 Td6 I think it gives the car a classier look, just put 4 brand new Michelin latitude tyres on a change from the Pirelli’s Scorpions.
Like the fact very easy to keep clean as well.

@cav,

Which nuts are you getting? Solid alloy or not? Cost? Where from?

Having the same problem and going to have to change mine.

Thx
DB

I’ve never thought about this before, but are the standard fitment bolts stainless steel?

I'm not sure they can be as they rust under the cosmetic cover causing the covers to swell.

If they are were steel originally, please take care. Stainless bolts are unlikely to have the same strength as the original bolts and might fail. I use stainless bolts where ever possible, but never on a size for size basis with steel, where the loading is high and where they are structurally critical. Please could a metallurgist step forward, for a qualified opinion, at this point? Thumbs Up

Dealer advised me against stainless nuts when mine (on 2012 WM) had to be replaced due to swelling, concern was not strength but corrosive reaction between alloy of wheel and stainless. This seemed counter-intuitive to me, but some research on line showed US construction industry support for it. As the standard nuts were replaced under warranty I left at at that.

Tyre fitters advised me to avoid air tools for fitting, they thought these made swelling of standard nuts more likely. Only Range Rovers since 1988
