So driving home happily this morning with our new (to us) TDV8 3.6 when I noticed a strange noise whilst driving. Under acceleration, with the drivers window open, I can hear what sounds like an exhaust manifold blowing. On a hill I got “restricted performance” and it slowed down. It sounds like a fluttering sound. Like paper in front of a fan is the best way to describe it.

I have an exclamation mark on the Rev counter as well. No idea what that is for.

I’m thinking the I ntercooler hose(s) to start with. I’m aware some vehicles were recalled for this but checking with my local dealer, she said my vehicle wasn’t one of the affected ones. How they differentiate between vehicles of the same age is beyond me but anyway..

turbo hose's split so look at those first [look under the hose as well]

The top hoses look ok and easy to replace. I can’t see the turbo hoses though so I assume they are a bit tricky to access?

I’ve got the left hand one, unused if you need it. Just stick your hand under the mesh, usually a hairline split

I took the hoses off today. They were fine. So I have no idea what the fluttering noise is.

Turbo actuator? sometimes described as pigeon noise.

I know the sound you mean, but it’s not that sound.

So there is no smoke blowing out of the back which is reassuring. It’s certainly not down on power either. I took my mate out in it (he has a TDV8) and he thinks it might have been remapped as he says it accelerates very well.

Whatever is making the noise isn’t as far as I can make out, the turbos. The spinning sound is too “slow” whereas a turbo spins at quite a high speed. Think of an engine on tickover with a slight exhaust manifold leak

I’ve got the IID tool BT arriving Tuesday so will that show anything fault wise?

The rumble from the front is also annoying. I’m wondering if it’s a tyre out of shape. That goes away when steering right. Again, it’s a slow rotation noise and not in time with how fast a drive shaft would spin.
