Low coolant sensor

Hi All
Now my 4.4 TDV8 runs the problems are starting to appear!! Does anyone know the best way of removing / replacing the low coolant level sensor. My vehicle thinks it's low, when it is not and the sensor appears to be on the bottom of the header tank. How the heck do you get it out. No doubt it involves a big strip down.

Thanks

Have you got the right mix of antifreeze in.
The sensor does not work if it is filled with water rather than antifreeze.
I think it is a sort of “ specific gravity” measure to detect weak mixture coolant.

Ah well. I just stuck in water to top it up. it didn't seem low even before I had to remove some coolant pipes!!!. So you think I should drain and refil with the right coolant and see what happens?

Our friend Nino-Nino found this out the hard way when he filled his with water and got the low level warning.
I have just been searching for his post but not found it yet.
I definitely think it will clear if you fill it with the proper mix of antifreeze.
You could send him a PM, I am sure he will remember .

The antifreeze looked pretty brown so I will drain it all out and refil. Hopefully the message will vanish. Thanks for the suggestion.

AKIS, most likely is that when the coolant was drained, floating element got stuck on the bottom of the expansion tank, it happened to me. I removed expansion tank out and wash it first with some gasoline and then kitchen degreaser and all is well again. Thumbs Up
