Just joined the FF family today when I picked up my new (to me) 5.0 Autobiography.

It’s Gelway Green with a rather natty Arabica brown and ivory interior. It’s got some non original bits that need attention. That aside it’s been well cared for and is in good condition apart from a small dent above the wheel arch.

Presumably your wife's requirement for surround camera meant you had to get a newer (full spec) FF !

2011 Vogue SE 4.4 with lots of toys in Stornaway

So here are my reflections on the first 200-mile trip and quite a few hours trying to break everything.

It drives really well, pulls strong and is amazingly fast on a straight (compared even to my E60 M5 for example) and I can't fault it even compared to a brand new car let alone a 10-year-old except for the brakes. I will take a look at these because I don't think these are as sharp as I would expect and they've recently been done according to the last owner and the paperwork.

It was incredibly comfortable, fast and quiet (unless you nailed it) and I think both the exterior design and the interior quality has aged well.

Given it's a decade old car it has all the tech you actually need to keep you safe and comfortable e.g. I really love the adaptive cruise control, the auto dipping wing mirrors, and the cooled seats! My wife loves the cameras. I found the paddle shift helpful for quick overtaking and useful for ensuring that the gearbox was in 6th gear as sometimes it did like to search for gears.

The sat nav was useless. It literally didn't have the A358 and most of the A303 on it. I have Waze on my phone so I question whether it's worth updating the sat nav. Does anybody have any experience of this?

My (short) wife loves the deployable side steps and access height, but I'm thinking how do I jack this if a tyre goes? Am I going to be that pillock that has to call the AA to change a tyre!

Minor faults to deal with:
1. Two small chips in the windscreen
2. Small dent above the front offside wheel arch
3. Lifting cover over the rear cigarette lighter switches doesn't stay shut
4. Whilst the leather is in good condition (no damage or signs of wear) it's a bit dirty in a few spots e.g. driver's door grab handle
5. Badges and grill aren't original although the originals came with it
6. Sat nav if I bother to upgrade rather than use Waze
7. TV doesn't seem to have any reception
8. Can't lift the front passenger's headrest.
8. Tyre pressure sensors missing

The last owner had to get rid because of the fuel costs. We will probably do about 5000 miles this year, so petrol makes sense for us. Plus it's way more fun and we have the ULEZ. Having had an E60 M5 I'm used to similar fuel costs, and so far it seems comparable. About 19-20 on a run and about 10 around town. Much less in stop-start traffic.

I'm keen to get an IDD tool and make some minor mods that I've read about on here like DRL, Jaguar ACC Queue Assist, getting the speed in the centre of the screen and ensuring that the rolling radius has been set correctly as the car has recently been fitted with 21 inch wheels.

On which, when the last owner switched the wheels he didn't add the tyre pressure sensors. Is this worth doing? In previous cars I've had more false warnings than helpful warnings and tend to check them myself when I check fluid levels anyway. Thoughts?

The main issue, to be honest, was the divorce worthy episode of trying to 'teach' my wife how to drive and park it last night.

On the question of tyre sensors.

Like you I would normally avoid them due to false readings.

However my latest came with them all fitted. I must exclaim most useful!!!

On my last wrecked tyre, (nail) - I was motoring along 50/60mph.....A road, no great twists or turns , and would not of known I had a failed tyre of it wasn’t for the auto warning. Runs very well at 26 : Two weeks prior exactly the same scenario, different tyre!!!!
. I haven’t had a false warning over nearly two years. Filters are in fact so good that in certain circumstances, when the ambient air is already polluted, a diesel car will tend to extract more particles from the air than it emits. Emissions Analytics worked with........etc etc

What year is the car/Nav? The 358 and 303 are very local to me and always appear on my screen in the 2012 as they did in the 2007 before that and the 2002 before that. The SatNav is a very weak part of the car/equipment, but perfectly adequate for my use (ie gets me to places when I dont know where they are) although maybe not the way I'd have chosen if I did know!

You can use the button in the roof to keep the steps deployed...but that needs one of those sequences of action that I always forget, so I just leave a door open while jacking.

7. If the car's old the TV will be analogue so useless in the UK. If the car is new enough to be digital then obvs something else!
8. Should be electric on the seat switches so either switch/motor or cable clip at fault?
2nd 8. (!) I've not had TPS on any of my Rangies so I guess it was always an option. Have it on one of the other cars but not something I'd pay for by choice.

Lovely. You mention the ULEZ, is the 5 litre free and the 4.4 diesel chargeable?

Don't know about the oil burner but entering my reg on their site says mine isn't affected by ULEZ. Mike - MPx

Yep ULEZ exemption is Euro 4 for petrol and Euro 6 for Diesel. I think your FFRR would need to be built after 2016 to meet Euro 6. I don’t think any L322’s are Euro 6. I live on the boundary of the 2020 ULEZ.

I would not update maps. Phone will always be more up to date.
