L322 Key Fob Upgrade in 3 Steps

Hi Folks,

I have just upgraded my key fob to the new slimmer one. Its pretty easy and means no more loose rubber. Thought I'd share the steps. As much as I love my chunkier key, I was getting fed up of replacing the £8 rubber bits every 6 months or so. Hope this helps and gives you something to do this weekend Laughing

Step 1:
Use a pry tool to take out the PCB from the old key - pretty easy and covered lots on the forum

New Replacement Key fob £17 - good quality metal clip with RR writing

Step 2:
Push the metal part upward and use a pry tool to open the new key fob and place the PCB in it. Note: you will see the PCB does not sit flush.

Another view - Close up of the PCB

Step 3:
Use a flat file and take off few mms to allow the PCB to fit. The photo below shows the PCB in situ after filing

Job Done:
Sit back and enjoy your new mod for £17 and in 3 steps and less than 10 minutes. Cool

This looks cool - thanks for posting!

Does it mean you lose the physical key that hides inside?

Im mulling over buying the IID tool too.. especially after the control arms change my suspension needs calibrater (one corner sitting an inch or 2 low)

Didnt realise you could get one for £21. The genuine ones go for over £60.

Still better than paying someone £50 to do it. The whole point of the forum is to contribute and help other folk rather than make money off them. Current:

If you watch Powerfull UK's video on Youtube he simply pairs a new key to the car without stripping anything down. He describes it as an aftermarket key as well.

WOW Shocked - these things have shot up in price, when I bought mine last year it was only £6.90 with the Range Rover embossing on. They can still be had for a fiver without the embossing.

I upgraded my spare key aswell.. is it right that the blade just sits in place rather than held in place like the fat one? Current:

Not sure about the key being held in place.

There is a kit for £14.50 that Dan@duckworth supplies which replaces the soft rubber bits with hard plastic. Did mine as I like the feel of something substantial in my pants pocket. Cheers

You will find it cheaper from your local RR dealer. I bought them for £6.

I was sick of the rubber failing every six months although I did like the chunky key.. these ones are much durable. Current:
