Snapped Bonnet Release

Hi All
So I've fixed my non running, error strewn, flood damaged, stolen recovered etc etc 4.4 TDV8 L322 and shut the bonnet. Great!!. However the bonnet release cable snapped when I tried to open it again, right at the handle. What a nightmare. Does anyone know if these are a pain to fit.

Thanks

From memory as long as you can access enough of it with pliers to actuate the bonnet release, swapping wasn't a big deal.

The path through the bulkhead wasn't too bad I don't think. Of course you will get cramp and curse yourself for not having double elbows but aside from that it didn't take me that long.

Good luck Thumbs Up Formerly happymadison1978

If it's at the handle remove the cover at the bottom of the panel in front of the door. It just pulls out. You should then be able to get pliers or grips on the end of the inner cable to pull it.to open.

The cable is in two parts. The join is up on the inside of the bonnet.

I used a cord attached to the end of the old cable when I pulled it through so that I just attached the new cable to the cord and pulled it back. John

I'm glad Weegie stepped in there with actually useful advice rather than my well meaning but vague "moral support"! Thumbs Up Laughing Formerly happymadison1978

Thanks both of you. I've ordered what I think is the correct part number FPF500040, although it does state its for vehicles upto 2009 and mine is a 2011. However I cannot find an alternative anywhere and it looks the same!!

Just so everyone knows there is a difference between 2002-09 L322 and 2010-12 L322 bonnet release cables. The former has a rubber boot with a metal clip (right pain that) surround, whereas the latter does not. A bit of grinding later and you can make the older part fit the later car. Feeding the cable through with a bit of string did not work but just pushing the new cable through the bulkhead from the drivers footwell was pretty straightforward.
