Its fuse f41 in the passenger side fuse box. Fixed my issue when I pulled it.have you tried unplugging the sensor first?

Just a thought, is it dark out when you have problems?
All the cars I've had with rain sensor wipers don't like the dark unless there is plenty of artificial light.
Maybe I've been unlucky or do they use light being distorted by rain to work out what to do?!

well, they appear to be ok now Shocked ......all i did was give the mirror housing a shake, it seamed a bit loose and i made sure the sensor was clean on the outside, i dont know if it had anything to do with it or of they have just had a stern word with them selves but the last few times ive needed them they have worked well, im not holding my breath tho.....if they play silly beggers again ill strip it down but for now...if its not broken, dont fix it!

I know this is an old thread but I figured better not start another.

So my rain sensor packed in recently which is a pain as I have no intermittent wipe.

I tried pulling fuse 41 for 10mins but it didn't help so I've disconnected the sensor & have got my intermittent wipe back which is good but its only at a low speed.

Next I tried to get the sensor off the screen but with my dodgy close up eyesight I couldn't make out how to do it. Can anyone advise me how to get the thing off. And any idea as to the best place to get another, I assume its a BMW part.

Cheers....

Rain sensor work by detecting reflected light back from rain on windscreen, as previous quote said the sensitivity is altered by the stalk. If the sensor is not pressed correctly against the windscreen they do not work correctly, which is why pressing rear view mirror may fix it. In all my land rovers they can initially be fooled but usually settle down after a couple of wipes.

Hi Rog21

Thanks for your input, what I really want to know is how to get the unit off the windscreen without doing any damage. Someone out there must know. As I said my close up eyesight isn't very good these days & I can't make out how its attached.

To remove the rain sensor you use a small screwdriver to push down on the top edges of the corners. The are vertical rectangular plastic latches that slide down to release it. If you look closely at the sides you can see the outline.
