2nd car opinions

We're after a 2nd car for me the the boss, and think we've narrowed it down to 1 of 2 cars, either a 330i M Sport (e90 saloon) or an Audi S3 (2007 or 2008 model)

Pro's and cons anyone? What would you choose and why? Only spending up to about £8k

Will mostly be doing short journeys in it (8 miles each way max)

I can only speak from our cars, my wife had a 330 E90 convertible, it was nothing but trouble, mainly electrical, traded it for an Audi A4 2007 and it hasn't missed a beat, Just servicing etc. About 10000 miles in both cars within the last 2 years, hope that is of some help Thumbs Up

I’d got for the S3 for the 4wd. The beemer can be a tail happy handful in the wet , great fun if you like it ... the Mrs may not

I always found the e90 very uncomfortable and played havoc with my back .. so drive it for a distance on the rest run 4.2 SC

M Sport steering wheels are weirdly thick rimmed, and I don’t like that.

The trouble with a BMW or Audi is the lack of toys as standard. So if you’re buying 2nd hand you might struggle to get what you want.

We've already got a 2003 Audi A4 cab, and had it 10 years. Aside from servicing, and a clutch last year its been pretty good.. We do love the build quality of 'older' Audi's (or our one at least)

Was thinking the BMW as a bit more grown up, and practical. But the devil in me still likes an S3? decisions, decisions....

We have a Mini Cooper S convertible - seems to be everything the FFRR isn't (except economical)

Make yourself a prime target for car thieves with a Golf Gti. Seen to be getting stolen more and more.

Edit: On second thoughts maybe it’s the R that’s the bigger target.

Cheers all

In a dilemma, as was considering selling the FF and getting either the S3 or 330i. But, used the FF again and fallen back in love with her Embarassed (I've not been her biggest fan the last few months)

Now I'm debating do i keep her and put aside the extra funds for repairs, as and when they're required? She's been pretty much trouble free for 9 years now (touch wood), aside from usual consumables

Keep the trouble free FF, or buy a more generic car from the company that’s cheated and lied it’s way through emissions tests and dropped all of the other manufacturers (especially LR) and every owner of a diesel car right in the mire? Let me think...

They really do need some sales consequences in return for what’s they’ve done, but people keep buying them in their droves. I don’t understand Question

Meanwhile, the E90 was a Chris Bangle inspired absolute low for 3 Series styling. It’s not a pretty sight and BMW soon rid themselves of any hint of those dark days within their current styling. If you’re going to get stuck at the first hint of snow, there have to be better places to sit and wait for help than in something that looks like that Shocked

I’d hang on to the FF at all costs! Thumbs Up 2011 FL2 TD4 XS Kosrae Green

If you decide not to keep the ff what about a mk5 golf r32? They sound good and are appreciating in value. Wouldn’t have an e90 personally as don’t like styling. An e46 m3 however....my biggest regret was selling mine. I gave it away 8 years ago. Worth double now! Would struggle to get a good one in your budget now unfortunately

My SWMBO has a 2012 VW Golf GTD we bought new, VW did the emissions check and messed the car up? I had it remapped mildly to 230bhp soooo much better now has 67k on the clock and has not missed a beat. I have had 5 Range Rovers,
3 Landcruisers, 4 golfs 2 Disco`s and about 20 others, Happy with what I have now, not looked to change BMW seats are not that good on long drives?
