There are a couple of posts about opening the rear door and taking out a hole plug in the back of the front door to allow a lever to open the door lock.

May help, have a search. Cheers

Looks like a pretty common issue judging by amount of online results for this. Seems like the cable can come away from the handle, sounds like it might be quite a fiddly job to get it back in place.

I feel for your situation - got a family member going through same health issues as you by the sounds of it - and if I thought I could fix this for you I'd come to you and do it for free - I'm only in Glasgow.

If it was mine and I had a day to spare, I'd get the manuals out and give it a crack but I wouldn't feel right saying to you I can do it and then wasting your time if it turns into a 2 or 3 day job.

Anyway, don't know if this helps or not, but have you had a look at the workshop manual for getting the door panel off, get a proper look?

There's a LR indy in Strathaven - not too much further on if you can get to Glasgow. Louden 4x4, 01357 521102. Never used them so don't know if any good or not, but maybe worth a call? Or I think there's another in Paisley, I'm sure a bit of googling will find them.
Edit: Prestige - https://www.prestigejaguar.com/about-us/

Hope you get the door sorted out mate, and you get back to full health soon. 09 RR Westminster 3.6TDV8 - Stornoway Grey / Black interior - now gone (sad face)

Perhaps................but I don't know if it works on a 2003.

You've said the cables are fine, but try this....

This does not appear to require that back door to do anything but open, not be removed. Cheers
