Light stalk on auto but only seemed to have sidelights

Not had the car long. So jumped in it the other night and headlights didn’t come on when on auto so just switched to normal and got on with my journey. Haven’t had time to look for the reason. Hopefully something simple??

Press the menu and toggle to adaptive headlights and make sure that is selected. All LR cars from 1984
