United Kingdom 2008 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Java Black
12V 90 Ah 850 A, Main Dealer Battery and 2008 TDV8.

Had the 2008 TDV8 to main dealer recently
Amongst other things I had the battery replaced. The invoice was pretty vague, just giving this part number
LLR094642 BATTERY Cost £238.94
No date of manufacture, no mention of warranty.
I was under the bonnet today and noticed that it is of the AGM Type 12V 90 Ah 850 A, I thought these were fitted to the stop start later Type (2011) ish vehicle. I tried reading the QR Code on the battery with my phone but no luck. In March 2014 the previous owner had the battery changed at the main dealer also but with a Gel style Battery. I have the IID Tool but don’t seem to have the option to reset the battery.

So I have a few questions please.

Are the Gel type and AGM the same sort of Battery?

Am I right in thinking the AGM Battery takes charge from the Alternator differently And therefore could cause problems?

Has The Dealer had my trousers down again?

Thanks in advance[/u]

No need for an AGM battery in the 2008

Better off getting a Varta Silver i1 CCA 920 110Ah for @ £130

I'd get them to take it out and fit the correct one. Cars fitted with the AGM battery do have a different way of charging and your fatty wont have that system. Plus they are twice the price for no benefit to you. I fitted an Exide premium EA1000 battery 18 months ago and its been perfect at €120. 2007 Vogue TDV8 in Zermatt Silver with Charcoal

If you going to buy a replacement for the garage to fit yourself, check out the discounts at Eurocarparts, got a replacement exact equivalent Exide with 50% off a few weeks ago (turns out I didn’t need it Rolling Eyes ) at just £80 David

Unfortunately only 40% off this Easter but still only £100 odd for a Exide Premium 110 battery. David

I went agm on mine no problems encountered at all.

conventional batteries were failing quickly in winter time , lots of small runs , no issues using the agm over the past 3 years .

My battery needed replacing so bought one from euro parts which was supposedly the correct type but it was too big to fit,I took it back and the only they had that was suitable was a AGM battery and they let me have it for the same price as the wrongly supplied one, quite a saving. That was nearly 4 years ago without a problem and still going strong so in my experience AGM is the way to go. 2009 Vogue SE Zermatt silver

one of my mate has 07 RR, while he had battery issues couple of years back, RAC fitted an AGM battery(RAC branded) and he has had no issues at all since then.
so i think having the AGM fitted shouldnt cause any unwanted issues.

I’ve just bought that exact same Exide battery. Euro Car Parts price matched Taynas price of £125 but I preferred ECP as I can at least take it back to my local shop if it fails whereas Tayna are mail order and it costs £30 to ship a battery back to them safely.
I Haven’t fitted it yet. How have you found it? 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded
