New kid without a FFRR.......but getting closer

It's getting closer.....honestly!
My head still says X5 or X6 but my heart is still thumping away at a FFRR.
I've found this one down in Brighton, not sure if anyone knows anything about it, but the MOT history flags up 'oil leak' which although is slightly generic, rings a bell amongst this forum as a 'seal leak' so if anyone can shine a light on a 'common oil leak' on these 4.4 TDV8's I'd be much appreciative. There's also a lack of miles over one year which may or may not be a problem, have a look if you're nosey like me.
I had thought of a AA/RAC report if I got to the point of purchase, I'm pretty savvy on cars, like most of you probably, been around cars since 'I were a lad' many moons ago in the 70's but parting with several bundles of notes, I'd like an independent view. If anyone knows of a good independent 'down south' again I'd appreciate a nod!
Hope the owner doesn't mind but I've copied the auto trader advert below for your perusal.

Thanks in advance.

Looks ok and priced about right IMO.
However my feeling is that you could get a Vogue SE or Autobiography with more gadgets and better trim.

Oil leak on a 4.4 could be one or three or more things, one is dead easy. But they are a bit of a leak prone engine.

Taken from here: https://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic51527.html ,here's my quick checklist:

General:

- Rear arches & tailgate rust
- Heated Cooled seat motors two per seat that's 8 if you have front and rear (£200 a unit so do check)
- Driveline fluids should be done, that's 2 x diffs, transfer case and auto trans (I'd want to see those done)
- LCD screen can sometimes go (not to common a failure)

4.4TDV8 specific watch outs:
- Starter (they like to go 80-90k)
- Alternator (they can to go 80-90k)
- Air Con Compressor (valve can fail or be slow to pump cold air)
- Oil Cooler seal (check coolant for oil)
- Upper rear oil leak (o-ring)
- Turbo drain mod (floor it and check mirror for smoke)
- DPF can be an issue if you don't get it over 40 much.
- Check battery voltage (AGM battery is £200 plus)

Ideally get it on a ramp, get the sump covers off and have a really good look for oil leaks. At that time you can verify whether the turbo drain mod has been done.

Fantastic cars, titan engine. And I absolutely guarantee there is an 'X' factor, a feeling that you will get with a RR that you just won't get with a BMW. RR's are just more special. Plus every man and his dog's got a BMW (or Audi).

. Cheers, Greg

I did see your checklist a few days ago while browsing the forum & it was the oil cooler leak that I noticed. Again, an SE or higher might be the way to go & perhaps that's why it's still for sale? Colour is nice as well. Thanks for your input.

I saw this on the 'for sale' forum & also on Autotrader I think. Looks a nice car but I'm pretty set on grey with cream 'non cooled' seats [only because the 'holes' attract dirt] Ipanema silver is another but again must have cream/white leather. My X5 has black leather & I find it a bit dull. Slightly concerned that rust is an issue on an 8 year old car.

Thanks for your response, all very much appreciated.

FFRR is coming......I know it is!

Is there that much difference between a Vogue-SE-Autobiography?

I'm a cream man myself so roger that!

Cooled seats are fantastic but they can go wrong.
If you eat in your car yes I guess crumbs may be any issue.

Good luck, don't rush it, you'll get a cracker.

Nobody eats in my car! Laughing
It's just nearly all the cars I've seen with cooled seats have that slight grubby look. I had a Jag Sovereign 2.7 tdv6 [loved it to bits & sold with 225k miles never a problem] with cooled seats, lovely to use but were a pain to keep clean.

SE-Autobiography:

AB's have full leather roof liner, leather door cards, leather everything. They also have cool little vanity mirrors in the roof for the rear passengers.

ABs can have two-tone seats and a more 'special' range of interior colours.

THere's little metal edges around the lower speakers, and proper LR barges in the top corner of the door cards which is basically just a screw cover. The plain ones are just molded plastic.

What else? Well it comes down to spec (toys). The list of toys is a bit hard to get your head around.
2011 is different to 2012. When I was trying to understand it all I posted a chart up ages ago.

I've seen specced up SE's with more stuff than an AB. Both tend to have adaptive cruise. The big ticket items are tow bar, deployable steps, rear screens. I'm not sure any were standard on AB I also think the HD audio is a great feature. 4-zone Air Con (signified by three dials in the rear console (not two) is a nice to have. Sometimes you see either AB's or SE's with electric recline rear seats.

Welcome to the candy shop!

PM me your email and I can send you a 2011 brochure with options list.

.

. Cheers, Greg
