A few issues at the moment, engine light on! (Running lean on petrol), but LPG bods say just need to bear with it until 1,000 mile service when they can adjust the trim.

Occasional transmission fault coming up, more worryingly. Along with occasional clunky gearchange. The good thing is it's happening now, so either dealer fixes or return car! 2012 SDV8 Vogue SE

Thanks for the update. It all sounds familair and almost exactly where my journey began.

If the yellow engine light hasn't gone out after around 6 starts, assuming each start allows a full warm up and a few miles (rather than just moving it across the drive), then its very unlikely the light will go out on its own as the system adapts. Also, as the system adapts you may find different characteristics when running on petrol or LPG.

Also, if it feels rough on either LPG or petrol then it is, so don't delay returning it for a check up.

Well, it had a good test today.

I took the plunge, and despite the issues, drove it 100 miles each way to Eastnor and back, for my LRE.

Didn't start off well, in fact, it didn't start full stop!!! I got the AA out, and we got it started without problem by blipping the throttle. It had been starting then stalling due to running lean on petrol (the reason for the engine light).

So we set off, and it went well for a while, then went into limp mode (transmission fault warning), stopped it, started again, drove fine, for a while, tranny fault, stop engine, restart, fine for a while, you get the picture.

BUT, we started to notice a pattern, the gearbox was fine on the open road, only went into limp when we were crawling along. Also harsh shilfts under very low throttle (at idle speed). So, this has got me convinced the the problems are primarily as a result of the battery needing to be replaced.

i would have replaced this already, but unfortuntely the lpg gubbins is quite prevalent in the battery compartment. I was unimpressed when my local auto electrician refused to fit the battery due to the lpg kit, but booked it into Land Rover for a battery change, and they had a good look, then said it would take up to an extra hour, then looked again, and said they couldn't do it. I then had a good look and realised that both garages were quite right, and it'll have to go back to the LPG installers for a new battery.

SO, it's booked in with them for tomorrow, 9am. So I'm optimistic that the new battery may put and end to my gearbox woes.

The great thing is that this gremlin aside, it was fantastic. Not quite as fast as I'd imagined, but fantastic, all the same. Just love the supercharger howl. Showing just under 16 mpg for the day, I think I'm getting around 80% of that on gas, so around 13 mpg, and that's with some crawling through towns, some high speed work, and the occasional howl of the supercharger on high speed overtakes. So all in all pretty good I think!

But 'running lean on petrol', 'problems starting', 'limp mode' all sound too familiar.

Running on LPG or lean petrol is probably why its not feeling quite as fast as you expected. So once its running well on petrol try the acceleration while on petrol, the resulting supercharge surge is slightly (say 10%) better than on gas and the throttle is slightly more responsive but noticable.

Let's hear how its running after a new battery.

I know what you mean, but I heard from the P.O. that he had the Transmission Fault come up, and that was before the LPG conversion, so there's no way that can be blamed on the LPG!

LPG guys are confident that fuel trim can be resolved, I guess we'll soon see...  2012 SDV8 Vogue SE
