Td6 over fueling

2002 147k miles Having poor mpg 20 at best.
Had issues with starting found no 1 and 2 injectors leaking off.
So I've replaced them. But still crap mpg. Bit the bullet and brought IID tool.

So upon looking at faults I've got
p0314-01 cylinder imbalance control general electrical failure.

Looking at live data on a warm engine at tick over, my fuel comp is

Cyl 1 653mm3
Cyl 2 655mm3
Cyl 3 7mm3
Cyl 4 651mm3
Cyl 5 1mm3
Cyl 6 651mm3

And mass air flow of 478 mg/H

From what I've read anything above 2mm3 is over so what the hell is going on?
I have no visible smoke at tick over or under load. The mass airflow seems to be low for milligram per hour I would of expected something like 3 grams per second on this 3ltr???

It's had low pressure pump, and fuel filter replaced. Any pointers which way to head. I have no baseline figures to compare it too.

Many thanks

Nick

on Cyl 3 give the injector loom plug a wriggle whilst you have the iidtool on and see if the reading changes, could be the connector?

Won't get a chance to play until Friday, but could have a look at my numbers then if that helps? (Tempts fate! Shocked ) .

If you could that would be good. Going to wiggle wires this weekend and also do vacuum test to make sure I have no leaks.

I am watching this thread as I only achieve 20 mpg , but they are short journeys , {td6}, I thought that was normal.

To achieve 20mpg I'm only just tickling the throttle, on 15 mile steady run. It's more the concern of the fueling at tickover have I got 4 injectors overfueling or two under fueling? After reading as much as I can it's looking electrical. But it's finding the bad sensor or wiring that's making the engine think it needs more fuel.

Checked my live data last night with my IID tool and this is what I am getting:

Cyl 1: +2
Cyl 2: -1
Cyl 3: -1
Cyl 4: -1
Cyl 5: -1
Cyl 6: -0

all values are mm3

My TD6 runs smooth and gets 29mpg (I do long runs every day of 50 miles each way to work and back).
I had a reading of +7 on Cyl 1 a couple of years ago and got the Injector replaced, as said any reading above +7 and the injector is most likely faulty.

Your readings seem way too high though, so I'd check the wiring loom first as it could be faulty and giving poor signals. You could also try swapping the injector that is showing the low reading (Cyl 5 at 1mm3) to another cylinder and see if the reading moves with it. If not then it's probably not the injectors at fault.

Your MAF reading seems about right, I was getting similar at tickover.

Cheers Tigger!!!

At least i know it's not most likely the injectors 1 and 2 where replaced last week. so yes going to look at looms and stuff.
Just had a handbrake clip pop off and cook the rear drivers drum. spring and pin rubbing the disc and disc cover. had to strip that out tonight so more work for weekend when new bits turn up.
I'm a proper fatty owner! Faults appearing faster than I can fix them Smile

Glad to be of assistance MD, guess you have moved to a FF from a Discovery...like I did a few years back.

Yep, the joys of FF ownership, had a good few jobs to sort on mine so far this year. Rolling Eyes

Still, I wouldn't trade her in for anything else. Thumbs Up

Well certainly no Vaccum leaks sitting at 28in/hg, at tickover and not moving either after switching off. Infact I still was holding some vaccum when i broke into the system to fit the gauge from being stood all night.

Loom wiggle test not really shown much up, couldn't get figures to change, but in graph mood no5 was fluctuating on it's own. without any wiggles. It looks like an OE part and has a date sticker of 2002 on it so it matches cars age.
Going to change it as a matter of course.

Unplugging Injectors when running, no 1, 2, 4, 5, 6 all had effects on tickover but no3 had no effect on tickover or really whilst revving, thinking possible injector here and engine is compensating using the rest.
Each unplug has pinged the correct ecu fault as no load on injector and correct numbers.

So other than waiting payday to buy a loom and another recon injector, I'm hoping this will cure it.
