Over-excited fuel gauge

Hey lads,

My Westie has started getting over excited with the fuel gauge. A few days ago it was creeping down to 54miles to empty, then whilst in solid traffic shot up to 121miles to empty. Then slowly ticked down to 70 over the next 15mins.

Then today it was 94miles to empty, then bounced to 161miles to empty - again whilst in heavy traffic (so it's not like I've moved to motorway or something that might mean the trip could recalculate).

Car has LR warranty, but it takes weeks to get it in, and I don't want to send it there with no idea of what the problem might be.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

TDV8?

If so there are known problems with connectors in the fuel tank -- easy fix, cut them out and solder the wires together.

More problematic to get to though -- if they fail, the car will stop before it runs out of fuel, or at least think it's going to run out of fuel, there may actually be fuel in the tank of course.

There can be up to 4 connectors in the tank that need removing, mine 'only' had 3 !

Yes, 4.4 TDV8

That service bulletin is really, really helpful.

Do they tend to 'get worse' (more inaccurate fuel gauge) or am I just looking at a fail eventually?

Cheers

Could fail anytime -- no warning -- my advice is get it fixed, quite quickly, don't get stranded somewhere because the car thinks you are out of fuel Current: 2011 FFRR Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8
