My new 2009 Vogue FFRR

Gents,

First post on the forums, happy to be here.

I have just bought a 2009 Grey 3.6 TDV8 on 73,000 miles. It's my first range and most probably the first of many. Been an absolute pleasure to drive so far but I do have a couple of questions.

What would you recommend of the bat regarding prevantative maitanence, what should I look at? Look into? Sort out etc..

When I bought the car I had a pre purchase inspection completed by an independent specialist who said that everything was in good nick (excluding rear brake discs which need to be changed) but I know when these cars go wrong it can get very expensive and fast.

Is there also anything that you would recommend to a new owner? Any 'top tips'?

Who looked it over for you?
Ditch any locking wheel nuts and replace with normal. Inspect the other nuts for swelling. Known issue across most LRs. Try a 22mm socket on them all Thumbs Up Replace any that have swollen.
Ditch the Censored jack in the boot and replace with an old LR red type with "horns" for roadside wheel changes.

It was looked over by a specialist near where I live. They put it on a ramp and had a 30min look. Not extensive but enough to put me at ease when buying it.

Thanks for advice about the wheel nuts, I'm guessing you've had a couple of issues? Sad

Not heard of swelling or issues with the jacks before, I would have thought the jack provided would be fit for purpose. Shocked

Scotland 2009 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Buckingham Blue

DrRob is right on both counts. The jack is borderline and the locking wheel nuts are a nightmare once they swell up.

You might also want to consider blanking the EGRs. There's a belief they can contribute to the turbos failing.

Get yourself a decent diagnostic tool (either an IID BT for around £400 or, less capable, an iCarSoft for about £100)

Prepare yourself for many happy hours of reading this forum.

[Edit to add a couple more]
Change all the fluids, gearbox, diffs, transfer box
Upgrade to LEDs interior lights (it's easy and makes a big difference Smile)

A Trap 

Yep, do the egr blanks off eBay. Also do gearbox fluid and filter change. Other than that, normal servicing and care plus any faults that crop up.

Get an iID BT tool... will help maintain your car and quickly pay for itself if you are at all mechanically minded (or help others diagnose!!).

What sort of cost are you looking at to change all the oils over?

Also just had a look at the LED upgrade and that looks awesome! Will look into that!

It's not a big job. Parts-wise should be £150-£200 plus I'd guess a couple of hours labour if you're not doing it yourself. If you opt to do it yourself you need to be able to accurately measure the gearbox temperature when refilling. 2016 Skoda Octavia VRS Estate

On blanking the EGR's there's a hell of alot of information on this forum but it seems like different forum members contradict each other.

Is there a consensus on which is best? I'm sure if blanking the EGR's was beneficial JLR would surely have something to say and it brings about the question of why install them in the first place (or was this down to emissions)?

Take it to MTS 4x4 in Alton and they'll do all the work for you under one roof in one go including gearbox flush 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

Thanks I'll take a look, Alton is not to far.

Another point to mention, I am currently using my phone plugged into the AUX as a way to play music through the system. There seems to be a lot of interference at low volume levels, is this normal? Is there any fix for this?
