My ‘new’ 4.4 2017 Autobiography

This is my third Range Rover first autobiography.

(I posted a note on stan’s Thread thinking it was a general ‘my new rr’ thread - so sorry about that.)

I don’t remember much about the first Range Rover other than it was Stornaway grey - cant remember where i bought it, i guess it was a vogue and don’t know the engine size it might have been a 4ltr could it be 3.6? Or 3.8? - i’m getting old obviously. Perhaps i threw out all the paperwork it was over ten years ago. I know i should probably never forget my first RR... do remember I sold it to the Mayor of slough.

I bought the second in Stornaway grey also, just so my staff at the time might not notice the car had been upgraded!! Smile This was a 4.4 vogue with loads of extras (just sold on the forum).

Now this is my 3rd RR 2017 4.4 Autobiography in Corinthian Grey - colour tbh was secondary to the spec. I’d probably have had an all ivory interior if i had the option but this compromise might workout more practical - ivory edges make the car seem bigger but the dark seats will cover any wear...

I felt the 2017 model was the sweet spot on bang for buck for a newish rr.

It doesn’t have the new headlights or grill of the latest version (matrix or pixel headlights look cool) and is missing the second screen in the middle centre of the console (but this screen pretty much does what the previous buttons do there anyway) - you can apparently flick the media screen down to it but i’m not sure that alone is the worth the extra. Seat controls on the door on new one too - which is a more sensible position for them.

Key thing for me is that if you get the newer style of centre media screen at the top (no buttons down side) you can upgrade the media software to include apple car play. In my mind that is a critical upgrade option because the normal landrover software is not great. Their ‘in control’ system has next to no software apps you can install and was pretty useless in my mind. Apple Car play by comparison works really well, reading messages, composing messages, reminders, podcasts, etc etc etc so much better an designed not to distract while driving. Last RR had voice control but i never used it - now with Siri the voice button is in frequent use.

I’m sending it to the spray shop for a couple of little fixes with body work. But i’d Really like to get it professionally detailed - anyone know anyone in slough/west london who is good?

I would also like to have been able to disable stop/start because i’m Worried about increased engine wear but there doesn’t seem to be a simple fix.

Was bugging me that i couldn’t remember that first RR. [edit: Now remember I bought it from a Southampton Honda garage. They got it as a trade in and were motivated to get rid of it fast and for just slightly more than the Land Rover dealership opposite would pay trade.]

Found a picture of the first RR

And the second

There are really no other side effects to unplugging the signal cable? --
