A/C compressor fitted cost + any other work - 2011 4.4

Was told yesterday that I need a new AC compressor (air conditioning comes and goes). They are going to get back to me with a cost but any suggestions on rough cost I should expect? Anything else worth considering doing while they are working in that area of the car?

There is a known issue with “a valve thing” in the compressor that can be changed - sorry, can’t remember exact detail.... but it’s a bit of a strip down to get to it. I think the thought tends to be that you might as well fit a new compressor and pay a bit extra....

Had my 4.4s done last week - front-end off job. Replaced all belts too. Valve was the reason why - highly irratic AC.

I know you can do it without a total strip-down, but my mechanic did it his way - all good now.

Maybe check pulleys too? one of mine is ticking and I would have done them but couldn't wait any longer for the car. 2012 4.4 TDV8 Westminster - Baltic Blue, Jet interior

€350 labour +

1 x Belt Primary TDV8 4.4 (Dayco) LR022803 £12.50

1 x Belt Secondary TDV8 4.4 (OPTIBELT) LR022804 £6.66

1 x Compressor L322 10-12 (OEM) LR010723 LR030218 LR121306 LR056364 £245.00 (Sanden, per the original fitted)

Its Spanish labour rate so I am assuming a tad cheaper. 2012 4.4 TDV8 Westminster - Baltic Blue, Jet interior

Blimey, that was cheap. Mine totalled about £1000 (but that did include the cost of the compressor).

Unfortunately it's failing again now after a year. Not quite frequently enough for them to replace it yet though. Still, I've got another year on the warranty. 2010 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE

Had mine done last year and was not a dissimilar price. The guys at my local indy hadn't done one before and told me the other month, they now know they will not do another as it was a right PITA. Current: RR L322 2010
