I understand that the above tyres are asymmetrical and can be run either way round as long as they are fitted with the "outside" of the tyre fitted to the outside of the wheel.

Try as I may I can't see any indication on the tyres as to which is the inside and which is the outside.
Having looked at my present same model tyres I can't see any indication on them either.

Before I fit my new tyres does anyone happen to know how these tyres are marked "outside" or "inside".

At present I can't see what difference it makes at all.

Well the rubber on the 'inside' of the tyre tends to be a dullish uniform lightish grey with undulations, and may leave a floury powder on the hands.

Whilst the rubber on the 'outside' of the tyre tends to be very dark grey with a deep patterned segmented appearance, and various writings in relief.

As a general rule the DOT code ( date of manufacture ) would be fitted to the outside if there are no other markings. It is only with directional tyres where the DOT code would be on the outside on one side of the vehicle and the inside on the other. 2010 3.6TDV8 Stornoway Grey/ Black interior - gone

Hmmmmm....... mine have “Outside” stamped on them, as they were on a set of wheels I bought and I wanted to check they had been fitted correctly.

Nicedayforit, Are you sure they are asymmetrical? My understanding, which may well be wrong , is that Pirelli include the word "Asimmetrico" in the description of such tyres. John

You will see from the pictures that the tread pattern is different and the latter has OUTSIDE clearly marked on the sidewall.

The old one is no longer on Pirelli's website and I imagine only old stock is still available. All new Land Rover seem to use Scorpion Verde All Season instead. 2011 TDV8 Vogue SE

Thanks for all the observations gents.
The tyres are Pirelli Scorpion Zero 255/55/R19 M & S 111v xl.
They are dated 0919, so not old stock.
The dot marking is printed on both sides of the tyre, indeed all the printing on each side of the tyres is identical.
There is definitely no outside/inside markings on the tyres.
There are no tyre rotation markings on the tyres.
The tyres are definitely asymmetrical, the block pattern is handed.

I have decided I am going to fit them with the grooves in the outer block pattern facing backward, to do this two tyres have to be fitted 180deg out so that the pattern is correct for both sides of the car.
Hopefully this may help someone else fitting these tyres in the future.

I agree that it is confusing. There are many tyres that have Scorpion in their name. I believe the most relevant to us are these three:

Pirelli Scorpion Zero. No longer available, but was OE fitment on my D3 (2009) and D4 (2016). Most online retailers still list them though, but prices dropping, probably as a consequence of being discontinued.

Pirelli Scorpion Zero All Season. A new tyre, although not sure of the release date. Don't seem to be type-approved by JLR at the moment and are also rare and very expensive on online tyre websites.

Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season. The current OE fitment for most Land/Range Rovers.

Confusing it certainly is.
At present my car is fitted with the same tyres, which I bought off LR as a set of wheel/tyre take offs back in 2012 so it is fair to say I have had my monies worth.
Never had any problems with the tyres hence I bought like for like.
When I fitted the original wheels I was obviously lucky as to what wheel went where as I don't remember even thinking about what went where but they were correct.
Presumably if I have a puncture and used the spare it could be handed wrongly depending on the side of the car.
I had no problem finding these tyres, albeit they came from Germany in two and a half days, they are obviously still readily available, they were only made last week.
Just be glad to get them fitted now for another 8 years.

The date code is week and year, so 0919 means week 9 which was March this year.
