Caliper removal question (brake line removal)

I just wondered if anyone could help.

I am going to fit new calipers, and while I know how to remove them for pad and disc changes, I just wanted to check how to remove the brake line.

I am assuming that I just use a spanner on the bolt in the caliper housing?

I am also slightly worried as the caliper is very rusty, that I might snap the bolt off Shocked

I will of course be bleeding the brakes afterwards.

I would be changing the flexible brake line as well Exclamation

That then leads to the condition of the brake pipe connection to the flexi at the other end, and then the brake pipe on from there.

That said:
It is usual to release the flexible hose from the solid brake pipe connection against the inner wing area, then you do not have to twirl the caliper around and around. That way you can then get a ring spanner on the flexi nut at the caliper end for better purchase. Suggest lots of releasing fluid, and maybe some heat, a few clouts with a hide hammer. (but see above...) .

If calipers with standard brake pipe fittings in the calipers,, key thing is to have the correct size split ring spanner available to minimise the liklihood of rounding off of the softish pipe nuts. Open jaw spanners make it very likely to danage the pipe nut unless previously loosened.

If calipers have flexible hose banjo bolts fitted, they should be no problem to loosen with a socket wrench (not open jaw spanner), taking care not to lose the copper sealing washers when fully detaching the bolt from the caliper! Paul,
