largest profile tyre on a 22" wheel

As above, recently switched my old 22" alloys that had 35 profiles on, for a set of L405 22" alloys with a 40 profile tyre on and the difference is very noticeable, sooooooooooooooo

was wondering if you could use a 45 profile on a 22" wheel? Embarassed

You can't, tried and they rub the arches. 40 is the max, unless you make other adjustments

You can fit 285/40/22 which gives a slightly deeper wall than 275/40/22 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #16

Not sure you can on a 322 Vogue... yes for sure you can on a 405 but I think the 275 was the limit of the rear wheel arches... Happy to be told different! Very Happy Thumbs Up

285 clears but its not the tire you need to be conscious of, its the wheel offset.

Make this a 22x10 wheel in pretty much any tire size and you'll rub. A 22x9.5 with like 49 offset (think L405 wheels or redbournes) clear no problem. Might even be able to stiff a 305 in there with the right offset wheel.

Inside clearance is a problem too. I have 20x9.5 L320 rims on my MY06 with 285/50/20s and they almost rub the shock tower inside. 2012 L322 SC Ipanema Sand

The OP was referring the L405 wheels which are 22x9.5 et49. For that wheel width and offset, the 285 width is the widest tire that will clear the metal flanges in the rear arches during heavy compression or when on bumpstops.

I have tested this setup with 285/40R22 Pirelli Scorpion Verde PCNS and clears the front struts, rear arches and rear fuel filler bulge without any modification (even on bumpstops by using the IID tool)

I have tested the 305/40R22 Pirelli Scorpion Asimmetrico. The tire looked too "bulged" on the 9.5" rim and does not clear the rear arch flanges when tested on bumpstops. The 305/40R22 is a better fit on the 22x10 ET42.5 SVR wheel (current setup)

285/40R22 is sure thing on the OEM L405 wheel. I would be interested in seeing a 285/45R22. This seems close to the overall size of the 275/55R20 a lot of people use for their offload set.

I do realize this. I read the thread.

Do you realize that L405+L494 wheels come in 22x10 size as well?

Your tolerances are appx 11" wide and 31.5" diameter. Using the right offset of course. 2012 L322 SC Ipanema Sand

From my knowledge, the L405 22” wheels are 22x9.5 ET49. The only L494 wheels that are 10” wide are the 22” SVR wheels with an offset of 42.5.

If there are other OEM 22x10 wheels, I would be interested in seeing which models. Always nice to change wheels out every now and then.
