Any ABS experts

Gents

Got a feeling my ABS module may be on its way out on my Audi A4 2003 3.0 petrol, as getting 2 dash lights up after a few minutes driving, ESP and the ABS light. Going to get it scanned this weekend hopefully to confirm. apparently its a common fault on older Audi's

I've been told it will it need re-coding or programming if I buy a used one from eBay, is this true? I have searched and asked on an Audi forum I use but its pretty quiet over there, so thought I'd ask you lot too Thumbs Up

It will need coding but if you have VCDS you can do I yourself fairly quickly and easily. There are many people selling VCDS on eBay with the dongle but make sure you get the full version not the lite one.

You will need to scan your old / existing abs module and copy down the abs coding information from the long coding helper, then swap the new module in and write in the old abs module coding. Sounds obvious but VCDS isn’t intuitive so I’d watch a few YouTube videos first.

I use audi-sport.net as it has a very active U.K. membership. ______________________________

You will enjoy changing the ABS sensor at the rear (not)

On my Cabriolet the rear seats had to come out, along with the rear side trim, in order to access the connector! Turned a 10 minute job into a 4 hour marathon! (removing the rear head rests was a right sod)

The body/chassis is also double skinned in the route for the cable, so tie on a piece of string in order to pull the new cable through.

Also check the reluctor ring for rust and crud, if you clean that up things may start working again.

The pedal switch may just need some fettling and a squirt with contact cleaner .

Cheers guys

Joe90, I have just ordered the rear ABS sensor and was wondering as the cable looks about a metre or longer on the photo, nuts. Was hoping it'd be a quick join near the hub, didnt know it'd be half the car out to get to it Big Cry

The brake pedal switch loooks a piece of cake, so thats first to do when it arrives

I was sorely tempted to cut the new one and splice on to the old one.....but Audi must have had a reason (not that I ever had problem with the connectors on the FFRR being right in the firing line) Smile .
