Alternator as Joe says is first then the bags otherwise you will burn the pump out (about 700 quid )

Island 4x4. You can buy just the bags simple to swop out even easier changing the whole strut up to you as quite a price difference

Managed to take it out just now and it's not too bad actually.

My main focus is this ticking noise.
When driving, it gets louder/faster as the revs go up and as soon as you take your foot of the accelerator, it disappears almost completely.

Does this sound like vanos?
Not sure where it is but with the bonnet open, it sounds like it's coming from the front of the engine where the belts are..

If I remember, there's a hydraulic tensioner on these (emphasis on I think) powered by oil pressure, could be the reason?
Worth getting a BMW Indy or RR Indy to stick his nose in there first? Always try an oil & filter change to start with. 2012 Orkney Grey Westminster 4.4TDV8 with Ivory interior.........nice!

There is a tensioner which is an easy DIY swop and it's over due on that mileage but as said oil,filter flush out the vanos solenoid

If you go on Millers-Morris-Opie oil websites, put your reg in they'll give you the oil you need. 2012 Orkney Grey Westminster 4.4TDV8 with Ivory interior.........nice!

Trouble is, 10 people will give you 10 different answers. The best way would be seek the services of a decent Indy & see what he says.
I didn’t think Vanos was that loud?
Sounds a bit like a lose injector or manifold leak but it’s just so difficult to advise without being there, sorry. 2012 Orkney Grey Westminster 4.4TDV8 with Ivory interior.........nice!
