Scotland 2007 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Zermatt Silver
L405

It’s time to move on!
Test drove a 14 plate 4.4 V8 in white today! SE spec, 37.500 miles! £35K
Drove from the garage, on my way to the motorway so I could give it some! Asked the salesman who was in the back seat! Where the switches were for the panoramic roof were, to be told, no sunroof on this car! Thought at SE level, it would be standard!
Turned at the next roundabout and headed back to the garage! Must say that my car would have left this one behind on performance!
Didn’t feel the love on the new car! 2007 VOGUE SE 3.6 TDV8

Interesting to hear your thoughts on the 405.

Sunroof wise I believe there is a fixed pano roof and the sliding one. It is possible to retro fit the sliding roof, I seem to recall some discussion on this over on the 405 section of this forum.

If anything I'd expect the 4.4 405 to be noticeably swifter than your L322 (and certainly mine being an early TD6).

I have test driven the 3.0 405 and found it to be adequate. Maybe something not quite right with the one you've tested as they are renowned as a powerful unit ! Current

Something must have been wrong. I found the 4.4 L405 to be quicker & more responsive than my 3.6 and that had a BAS remap.

I've recently upgraded from 3.6 L322 to 4.4 L405 and the performance is much better, it is alot smoother and quieter though so could give false impression.

Keep your eyes peeled for a well spec'd autobiography and with slightly higher miles, they are out there for similar money.

My 3.6 VSE ( remapped) felt much quicker than both my remapped 4.4 tdv8 and my current 4.4 sdv8 ( standard for now ). I dont know whether its because the 3.6s turbo set up is different to the sequential set up of the 4.4 but the 3.6 definitely had a much quicker feel to it. Not having driven your car I can't compare, but I thought the 4.4SDV8 in sport mode offered pleasing overtaking performance, certainly well ahead of the standard 3.6 TDV8. Have you considered a 5.0SC? It's maybe a bit pricy, but the Pentland website shows a 2019 5.0 SC Dynamic that you might like to test drive (if you can find some clear road in that area) to see if that sort of thing would do. Only Range Rovers since 1988

Again , just my opinion but its more of a feeling vs actual performace figures. Anyone ( including other FFRR drivers of L405 and L322 persuasion) who rode in my 3.6 were surprised at the feeling of power from it. It had a remap and when i first test drove a few 4.4 TDV8s i was disappointed at the lack of that feeling. Maybe its the gearing of the 8 speed box as opposed to the 6 speed but even after i had my 4.4 TDV8 remapped it never had the urgency of the 3.6. My 4.4 SDv8 isnt slow and much quicker than a 3.0 L405 that i drive regularly but it doesnt have the feeling of my 3.6.

If you ride motorbikes is much like the feeling of a four stroke vs a twin ,the four stroke feels like its flying and yet a twin can be as fast but feel slower. I had a few Ducati 998s back in the day and you would get a genuine shock when you looked at the speedo because you were always going much faster than it felt. I went back to four strokes just for the feeling.

I've got a lovely 998 in the garage, and yes, I understand where you are coming from. Whilst my 4.4 is a nicer place to sit, it doesn't feel quicker than the 3.6.

Not quite sure about some of the above comments, but I have had a JE remapped 3.6, a 4.4TDV8 and a 4.4 SDV8 in the latest RR. The JE 3.6 was just below the performance of a std 4.4 TDV8 and the 405 SDV8 absolutely mops the floor with all of them - perhaps some air filters need changing in the other vehicles as there definitely appears to be some poor performance issues 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17
