L405 NS side step

Hi all, I’ve had a read through the existing similar posts regarding an issue with deployable side steps. My NS step is stuck out. It goes in but comes back out all the time. So I’ve read to lubricate pivots etc but is there anything else that I need to check ?

Many thanks all in advance !

Small stone dirt ? something bent ?

Sounds like it thinks there's an obstruction when it tries to fold away, so opens back out. I guess just try to observe it from as many angles as possible & see if it catches on anything.

Thanks. It works as it should just doesn’t stow away. When the rain stops I’ll get under and have a look !

My drivers side wouldn't come out the day before yesterday after a trip down a few muddy lanes, I jet washed it, then applied some WD40 but to get it to work I had to keep working the step and everytime it tried to move just gave it some gentle assistance. I couldn't see or hear anything catching, it's worked fine for the past 2 days and it's been down more muddy lanes Current

Get some grease on the pivots as well. WD40 is a water dispersant (WD - geddit? Wink Very Happy ) so some lubricant is now required....

One of mine stopped for a while but was "cured" by a software update although I suspect switching it off and on again would also have worked.

Think you need to read the can.

10 out of 10 for getting what the W and D stands for, bonus point if you know what the 40 means. Current

40th attempt / 40th formula

Agree with Andy - It's also a lubricant

Quote:
Is WD-40® Multi-Use Product a lubricant?

Yes. While the “W-D” in WD-40 stands for Water Displacement, WD-40 Multi-Use Product is a unique, special blend of lubricants. The product’s formulation also contains anti-corrosion agents and ingredients for penetration, water displacement and soil removal.

Thanks all. So today whilst putting some rubbish in the bin, I opened the passenger door and closed it to stow the step. When the step was virtually away, I gave it a gentle “nudge” with my foot 😏 it’s now stowed away. So tomoz I’m going to give them a clean and lubricate in the hope that fixes it !
