Suspension L322 vs L405

Hi, anyone knows how the suspension changed from the l322 to l405 in SC models? some owners report a much improved confort ride. Maybe it is just the larger sidewall in the l405. Thanks

The L322 and L405 front suspension at least are quite different, with the L322 using a McPherson strut and the L405 double wishbones. Damper rates are likely to be different and are different on at least the MY11/12 L322 between the 4.4 TDV8 and the 5.0 SC.

Hi, thanks. The MacPherson design has a much smoother ride at highway speeds so I do not get why the reported ride improvement for the L405. I struggle to see the technical reason for it

Probably are the damper rates? Also it ca be that most owners in the L322 are going from a car with old and worn vehicle suspension and tires to a brand new suspension and tires.

Comfort on both is good, my guess would be that the adaptiveness of the suspension on the 405 is more sophisticated, with more advanced software. Early 322s didn't have adaptive dampers at the back I think, and the ride of later 322s was better than of earlier ones (comparing new for new). Tyre technology will be a factor too, more modern tyres will have lower rolling resistance and lower noise. Only Range Rovers since 1988

Any L322 that has adaptive dampers has them front and rear.

McPherson struts are a cheap suspension design that can't provide nearly as good geometry as double wishbones. IMO its one of the worst features of the L322.

Add suspension bush design to the many factors that affect ride comfort and that later-designed vehicles would be expected to provide an improvement in ride comfort over older designs.
