Great to see some NavTools on the forum. I'm really interested in getting one of these.

Quick question - is it wired only CarPlay or can it be wireless?

Also, how do you interact with the CarPlay - is it using the touchscreen or do you have to use an external 'joystick' like they show in some of the navtool videos?

Not wireless usb to lightning.

You access through the nav button and then it's touch screen. You use the nav button to toggle between the car's original system and the Navtool one.

It's all in Navtool video posted on the first page of this thread. John

I messaged Navtool support yesterday - it's really frustrating how you ask them 3 questions and they only ever seem to answer the last part. Anyway... after 3 attempts they said that for the 2010-12 model cars it's not a touch screen interface and you have to use a remote. They also said installation is behind the head unit for the 2010-12 and not in the boot.

I also asked about wireless CarPlay and they said that's an extra $5000!!!!

The remote though really puts me off. Seems very odd that the 05-09 touch screen works but the later one doesn't. There's always the possibility the person I was messaging with was wrong....

Sorry about that, WB. I hadn't looked at your MY and was thinking only of 2005 - 2009.

They are not very good at responding. I am trying to get an RMA to return the unit for fixing as the audio on mine is unusable. The display works perfectly. I have had lots of to and fros with their tech support trying to fix it. The time difference doesn't help either. It's quite frustrating as the system is just what I want.

It is a bit of a marathon to get a response from them. Sad John

Yeah it's a disappointing backward step if it's correct that the 10-12 CarPlay doesn't work with the touchscreen. The person responding was so flakey that I'm not sure I trust they are correct... I also asked for a copy of the installation instructions 3 times and each time that was ignored.

Their customer service isn't impressive dealing with sales so I can imagine what it's like dealing with an issue. Funny that they put a video on their website making the point that they test each unit 3 times before it goes out yet your audio doesn't work...

So annoying that it looks like it could be a killer product and the current price is tempting but I'm going to wait and see for a bit.

You don't say whether you are using Android or iPhone. If Android (eg. Samsung) some suggestions here which might help:

Otherwise I would look to their tech support. John

Have you tried a known good iPhone cable directly into the NavTool unit to eliminate any faults in the cable or the USB extension lead ?

I'm using android (Samsung). Everything worked and now is not.
I tried with short Samsung usb cable and nothing.
It's strange it worked and now it doesn't.

An update on mine. As stated before, I fitted the system when it arrived in November but it was unusable as the audio was severely distorted. I tried several suggestions by their tech support to no avail.

I had a bit of toing and froing with the company but eventually they told me to make an application for an RMA through their website. This I did and duly received a text with the RMA number and the return address.

I sent it off and was pleased to have a quick turn round. They sent a replacement unit which arrived on Friday (27/12). I fitted it today and, after sorting out a couple of duff connections on the video side (down to me and my soldering and heat shrinking Embarassed ) all is working as expected. Much improvement on the standard system.

I have still to run the cables forward through the ducting but can do that tomorrow, all being well.

Just a note to say that they did respond pretty well to any queries on the tech side. The main difficulty in getting a response is if you use the chat facility. The time difference makes this pretty cumbersome. Their morning doesn't start until 2pm UK time 3pm here. I found emails worked best in the end.

Hopefully all's well now. Confused

Thanks, Chris, ctjfb, for the help. Thumbs Up John

I had to pay the return to them. It was in the T&Cs. They paid for return of the new unit to me. On neither occasion, initial purchase and new unit, did I have to pay duty. Let's say that the declared value was within customs allowance. Cool John
