Same car and spec just a few hundred quid cheaper but from different dealer.

Challenge is I want a Towbar.

tbh I like the colour and spec.

there is about 5 same spec on there all with towbar all ex-JLR so must be a job lot!!! lol

there is one VSE also about 62 which is of interest.

I'd ask the dealer what Ex-JLR means. Usually cars starting with a K are usually ex hire cars or dealer relief cars.

My thought is if you do go for it, do what I did and refinance it after first payment. I can give you a good contact for a 5.9% APR rate. Although you might find a cheaper deal. 👍

LT - I'd be interested in who this was as am about to do it - want to check if its not the one I am thinking of using!

Unlikely they know.

AFAIK there are closed auctions where JLR sell off the better vehicles into the dealer network. The Landrover Experience cars and other less cared for examples go to public auction, or at least used to.

Not really - K just means it was registered in the DVLA local area around Milton 'K'eynes. Rental cars, are just allocated a number in the area that the batch of cars is registered in - usually where the manufacturer head office, rental company head office, factory area for UK built etc, is.

Most Jaguar Landrover management, experience and press cars these days start with O as they are generally registered in the 'O'xford area. A lot of Special Vehicle and Factory mules are registered with a V (Worcester/Severn 'V'alley area). In earlier times a lot of Landrover cars were registered in 'B'irmingham as they have a 'B' - the launch L322's for example. Current Fleet:-
2018 Discovery 5 3.0 HSE
2021 Ford Ranger Wildtrack
2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt 5.0 V8
1993 Defender 90 200TDI Pickup

Gone - not forgotten
2016 L405 4.4 SDV8 Vogue SE
2012 L322 4.4 Westminster
2004 L322 4.4 V8 Autobiography LE
2000 P38 RR 4.0 HSE (ex Clarkson test car)

After a lot of sitting on the pot, I finally took the plunge and bought a new VSE 4.4 and collected it yesterday.

In the process, I looked at a lot of cars, of all of the KS, KP and KW prefix cars, when the dealer checked, I was told they were ex-hire cars. The spec always seemed similar Fixed Pan Roof, Electrically Deployable Towbar.

I recently went into my local Enterprise to hire a van, they had 2 KS prefix L405 V6 Diesels in the yard, so while there may be some cars out there that aren't ex hire cars that have a K prefix, I think that a lot are.

But the car is an AB - highly unlikely to be hire car spec - I'd expect them to go base Vogue.....

Also ex-JLR - not ex-Avis or ex-Hertz - do JLR do hire cars these days ?

These aren't hire cars in the normal sense, they're cars that LR supply if a customers car breaks down.

I can only go off what I've been told, its not a new thing, when I bought my D4, the first one I looked at was used and originally from a company called Scotts, the salesman was very honest and upfront.

Apparently Enterprise get their cars them from LR and then at a certain point return them for disposal. Having AB's does and doesn't make sense, it doesn't financially, but does in that if a customers Vogue breaks down and they get an AB, its a win, if an AB breaks down and you get an AB, its also a win.

Looking at the LR Used Website, the cars I've clicked on that are K prefix are "Ex Corporate Re Purchase" which would fit in with what I've been told.

Sounds feasible I guess.....

JLR have quite a large fleet, including loads they 'loan; to 'celebs' as well as actual management cars - but your theory is as good as any.

It depends on the fleet your loan vehicle comes from. The Executive Office has access to Autobiography derivative vehicles but they are usually Vogue SE 3L Diesel engines on standard spec aside from a tow bar.

When we were replacing the wifes car in August, one of the cars we were interested in (Autobiography RR Sport) was not on site. When the dealer checked it turned out it was also JLR registered, and was being used by the dealers body shop as a loan car for people having their cars repaired.
I assume the cars are loaned/leased to the dealers, rather than it being registered in their name rather than JLR... Too many toys, not enough time
