CV JOINT Rubber Housing

04 4.4 petrol - just enquired about replacing my front CV Gaiter and have been informed that my garage don't bother replacing them anymore as it's just as quick to replace the entire drive shaft - obviously the cost is much higher - does that sound right?

If the gaiter has failed, say tears, splits or holes, then whatever it's protecting has been open to the elements. That means extra wear and tear. I would probably replace the whole shaft, but would only make the assessment on my own car.

If, in your opinion, the garage make a sensible case, then replace the whole thing. Cheers
Richard

I just replaced the offside CV gaiter on my MY11.
It was split and leaking grease, but still had plenty of grease packed around the joint.
So just a replacement of the boot.
