Scotland 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 V8 Orkney Grey
2011 rear suspension

Hi all. So, as it is Christmas and everyone is struggling till pay day my rangie has decided to give me an issue 2 weeks before I have to do 1000 miles in her Sad looking for some advise before I go poking about at her. She has just had her MOT and has an advisory on rear suspension link (offside) that I thought I would sort later, but in the last day or two I’m getting a knocking from the rear near side when I go over a bump. I’m not sure if it’s in my mind or not but since I noticed this I’m sure the rear end is very bouncy! (Ow er 🧐)
Could she need new shocks? She has done 103k and have never been changed to my knowledge. Is there an easy way to tell and also to know where the knocking is coming from?

I have bounced on the rear bumper and the suspension compresses and returns but is akin for a fat girl turning over in a water bed and takes a bit of time to stop bouncing, is this normal??

Anyway thanks for any reply’s in advance and merry Christmas everybody!!

If it was your shock absorbers then this should have been noted by the computer on your MOT sheet.

Start by changing your advisory stuff (both sides when working on old suspension) then end up changing everything that you can see.

Worked for me Exclamation

My MY11 just had its MOT

Advisories
Offside rear upper suspension component ball joint has slight play. The rose joint.
Front offside suspension arm bush worn.
Rear subframe bushes perishing.

Sounds like you have the 1st one of the three.
Should be fine to drive on for a while. I wouldn’t worry about that 1000 mile.
I plan on getting my advisories done in the summer. When I have done another 5000 miles or so.

So, after a quick spy under the old girl the fault is pretty obvious. The rear left shock is knackered. Now I need to find one that can be delivered as soon as possible. Local parts shop has one in stock but is £380 and I have found the same part from lrparts for £250 but have to wait till the 31st for it to be dispatched.

On a side note, if anyone else is having this issue, open the driver door and press the suspension up, then close the door and quickly look under the car, mine started to Censored oil at this point.

See pics

That’s definitely bust.....

They aren’t cheap unfortunately being adaptive units.

Mine have been weeping for a while now “they all do it” aparently...... Rolling with laughter

But not seen one dump all it’s oil! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
