22 Conti LX Sport - inner silicon- what's this?

Hello,

Does anyone have any ideas why two seemingly identical tyres both made in the same week/year , might look so different?

I attach two pictures of the inner width of the tyres. On one tyre, the black silicon covers the full inner width but on the other tyre the silicon covers only a smaller section of the central width.

Thoughts welcome.

Thanks

Don't know Stan, I've seen similar before on silent tyres where a foam strip is attached to the inner of the tyre on top of silicon (as in the narrower example I've pictured)...

I've not seen it across the entire width before...

Both coatings (pictured) are very precisely done and do look factory finish though...

Adhesive for the foam insert for the silent version. Just had 5 fitted today, of the 5 which were removed, 4 had foam and the 5th looked like yours without foam - I think the foam must have been removed to fix a puncture and I didn’t notice... 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

Thanks Vogue, I thought the silent version tyres had the word 'silent' embossed on the tyre wall. These don't.

The new Conti’s do have the word “Silent” embossed on the wall by the tyre size, my old tyres of 2017 vintage don’t have it - no external markings that I can see which identified them as the silent version.

I have just been outside to check - as I kept 2 of the best old tyres as just in case spares as they are on 4mm, and the black inside is definitely the contact area adhesive for the foam inserts 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

Thanks Vogue, the two tyres are both week 15 of 2017 (Stan) so that might explain the lack of any 'silent' embossing on the tyre. Strange how one band is full width and one central area only... Hey ho
