My Opel Kadett / Vauxhall Astra mk1 GTE

Have the GTE since 1992 but did not use it for some time. Decided to strip it with the view to restore it - started with the stripping process on Wednesday past and has managed to remove everything in the interior, except the dashboard.

Some photos of the car before and during the stripping process

Yes please, I’d like to see those photos. Really fancied a Mk1 Astra when they were current 😁

I had a 3 door Kadett SR in yellow in my early 20s. Superb Recaros, 1.3 SOHC, 75bhp and plenty fast. Loved it but it rusted worse than the 1.5 Alfasud Ti I replaced it with Very Happy Current: FF Westminster money pit

A Trap

I have had a Mk1 and Mk2 18v GTE’s, think the Mk1 is a better looking classic now.

How is the rust where the front subframe/chassis meets the floor pan, this was always a classic rust spot.

Had a mkI for some time after an Escort XR3i & thought the Astra far superior. Sadly Astra's did not sell as well, probably because it did not have "Ford" written on it.

Good luck with the restoration. 2003 Range Rover Vogue TD6

That is the Big Cry - quite a bit of work to do to get it right, including now having to remove the dashboard and engine which I initially hoped would not be necessary.

I had a white Mk1 GTE, great car, had to get shut when the first sprog popped out.
Traded it for Cavalier SRI 130, four door, so we could get the sprog in the back. Crying or Very sad
