Does anyone know if warranty companies have given any directives if people can't access service or maintenance works as required by the warranty Ts & Cs?

Seems like its OK to have no MOT if you're on an essential trip - might be interesting to see how that one plays out, particularly if you're involved in an accident and then have to justify the essential nature....

Maintenance a bit different IMHO - any time based restriction shouldn't apply - mileage less so - the warranty allows you 1000 miles past the indicator coming on - and likely hard to justify that much essential mileage.....

Wonder how this effects your Insurance as you don't need a valid MOT to still be Insured for use on the Road.

I believe they are extending current certificates, so technically, you will still have a valid MOT for insurance purposes.

"Vehicle owners will be granted a 6-month exemption from MOT testing, enabling them to continue to travel to work where this absolutely cannot be done from home, or shop for necessities."

So you'd better have declared commuting on your policy - and if shopping, can't be too far from home.

is this 6months from the date the current mot runs out?

I think so - until reversed anyway - this is what it says so seems like it's a rolling 6 months & not from a fixed date -

"Legislation will be introduced on 30 March 2020 and will come into immediate effect for 12 months, following a short consultation with key organisations. Drivers will still need to get their vehicle tested until the new regulations come into place, if they need to use it."

Unfortunately it failed (badly corroded rear brake pipes) so its off the road until at least this Friday (parts delivery all slowed up). Current

I've just realised that my first MoT is due on the very day that this extension runs out.

I'm just imagining how difficult booking the MoT is going to be when they might have a 6 month back log to clear all of a sudden

Fortunately, the MoT on my motorcycle is due in July, so I'll be able to get two months' grace on that one - then I'll probably have exactly the same problem as Fatty. Suggest booking an MoT as far in advance as possible...

Why not just find a garage that is still open for tests and book your car in now to avoid any potential backlog problem. You could even take it a month early.

Got mine done just before lockdown

I'm not sure I'd want to extend it if I had to get it done now - I tow a TA many thousand miles per annum (or used to before lockdown ) and need to know everything is good. Even without the tin tent on the back (on private roads) it can go pretty fast - I want confidence in it
