Detailing / Polishing

Apologies for starting a new thread on this topic but what I'm hoping to get out of it is recommendations of products and techniques for cleaning the RR. I have a Karcher with snow foam lance and have been using that on my cars for the past 3yrs or so, so washing isn't a problem.

However I have no clue when it comes to flattening, scratch removal, polish, wax etc. With the indefinite working from home arrangements at the moment, I find I have at least 2hrs a day where I would have been commuting that I can put to good use so considered getting to work on my new (to me) black 322 as it does have a lot of swirls and surface scratches.

What products would you recommend (that are relatively easy to source in the current environment - Amazon?), including applicators and pads, etc. And are there any techniques I should follow?

Thanks in advance!

A 'clay bar' is the first item on the shopping list, you won't believe the muck that comes off the car even after a good wash.
Once the clay bar has been used then it's down to the millions of products on the market, everyone has their favourite.
I'm an Autoglym fan followed by Meguiars but it's up to the individual.
A cheap DA polisher is handy on these big ol'beasts, it'll save you a lot of arm ache!

The key is to assess the degree of correction required. You don’t want to remove more of the clear coat than is necessary. Badly swirled and scratched paintwork will require a polish with higher cutting ability than paint work that is in good condition. The pads also have different levels of density for different levels of correction.

I’m a fan of Menzerna polishes simply because they were the first product I tried and had results I was more than happy with so carried on using them.

I’m currently doing my full fat because of the enforced down time and will post results when I’m eventually finished Whistle

As has been said a DA polisher is required to achieve the best results and although the initial financial outlay seems expensive the polish last ages and my DA is still going strong after 10 years Thumbs Up

Agree with the above, my 1st RR was heavily swirled (black is a nightmare)

Menzerna for me too, always use less course first, you cannot add clear back on unless you go for a spray job.

I found it a really satisfying process, don't get me wrong, it takes a fair old effort, but when you stand back with a beer after a couple of days (not 9-5 ffs) the finish can be incredible.

Take your time, on youtube AMMONYC is fantastic, loads of content there which I used for reference before I kicked off.

I use an online retailer who offer great advice https://www.in2detailing.co.uk/

It's worth the effort Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Because of the sheer size of a ff I tend to break it up into sections and do it over a few weeks. For example I’ll do the near side front wing and door one day and do the rear wing and door a few days later.

This has 2 effects. 1. It stops you thinking it’s a never ending job and 2. When you’re out and about and you park up you can really see the difference between the panels you’ve already detailed in comparison to the one’s you haven’t.

This incentives you to crack on and do the rest.

Your neighbours will look at you like your mad, but if done well the results are amazing. An added bonus is the fact that your ff will be so much easier to clean for the next 6 months, the dirt just falls off Thumbs Up
