So, I have put my 04 into a local indie with suspension issues, He has said, height sensor which I thought, problem is this he has one from ebay with a 3 pin plug and mine has a 6 pin plug?? does this resonate with anyone? Thanks

Yep, your model has a 6 pin connector!

IIRC that happened on mine, I got one from Ducky Dan and it only had three wires, the old one had six, I asked and he said the old one had been superseded. I fitted it and it worked fine..!! Can't see why it would need six wires when it is just a variable resistor like a petrol sender... surely only needs a couple of wires to work...!! Pete

Mine through up suspension fault yesterday, fault code for left front so had both front wheels off today for a look see, unbolted from suspension arms and checked the readings on the foxwell while moving sensor arm up and down both doing more or less what I expected to see so back together been round the block and fault not come back just have to see how it goes and mine has three wires on left front and six wires on right front.

I attempted replacement of my right rear height sensor today but had to abandon the job after a couple of hours toil.

The screws which mount the sensor to the mounting bracket are just spinning without loosening so I can’t get them out.

I suspect the brass inserts in the sensor are rotating in the sensor mounting…. I can feel a sort of “notching” as the screw rotates. The screw heads are still good without any rounding.

I’ve put some deblock spray on and left overnight

I’m guessing loads of people on here have replaced height sensors.

Any advice or tips on how to proceed ?

Same happened to me when I did a front one. I had already unbolted the bracket from the car to change it. In the end I found some bolts in my tool box that threaded in to the new height sensor ok, so I literally just needed the bracket. Ended up cutting the plastic on the old sensor to get to the brass insert, which I could then grip to get the bolt out and the bracket off. I pulled the actual sensor off the insert before that…. 20 min job ended up being rather longer….

Rang LR up for a price on the bracket…. £170 odd…..

I soaked it in WD40 overnight but I think that just enabled the insert to spin in the plastic more 🤣

I had the same problem on my car, I just cut the head of the bolts off with a Dremel with a cutting wheel, the bolts for the sensor are M5 or M6 from memory, easy enough and cheap enough to replace with stainless steel bolts so the problem does not happen again.
