It turns out that the RAC have now brought the maximum starting mileage down from 100,000 to 80,000 (and put the price up a bit too!). As I’ve currently got 82,500 miles, that’s the RAC option down the pan.

There is such a disparity between LR MD for Diagnostic charges you have said UK charge £180. Spain 80 euros. Must be labour rates still cost a lot here?

Are you aware of what the franchised dealer’s Hourly labour rate is in Spain?

82 euros for fitting my suspension compressor so that must be hourly rate?

Depending on how long it takes to fit a compressor...

I have used Warrantywise in the past for other vehicles and i find their cover is very good. Wear and tear covered, if manufacturers deem it good practice to change items in pairs they cover that also.

I managed to bargain with them to get stuff added such as air con, air bag and other stuff and i found that you can pay monthly also, so there’s no big outlay at the start. You can specify main dealer labour rate and also how much you’ll contribute.

Their cover does vary with age of vehicle and mileage though.

I’ve just been to check them out, but for a 3 year old car, with 96,000 miles on the clock, I don’t think it’s the kind of business they’re looking for - it becomes a very limited level of cover, for £2,010 per annum. As long as it’s under 100,000 miles with the LR policy, it’s full cover at £1,040.
I accept that lower mileage may make quite a difference though

The LR Extended Warranty is a very good but expensive warranty.

It is now (without breakdown cover) £158/ month interest free over 10 months, or £1580 if you choose to pay it all at once (but you can stop paying monthly at any time, e.g. if you sell the car, so to me, monthly is a good option if you can stand the cost of that monthly outlay).

Put our L405 into the main dealer this week to have an intermittent front passenger door lock fault repaired. The health check that was done also found a throttle body oil leak and a sump pan oil leak which I’d been unaware of (no leaks on the ground under the car).

The passenger door and both oil leaks are both covered under the LR warranty. As yet, no idea how much that would cost to fix at main dealer rates without a warranty but yet again, an example of the warranty being a good one. Aside to service and maintenance schedule items, in the 5 years we have had the L405, every fault/ issue found on it has been covered by the LR warranty.

The LR warranty allows one hours labour for diagnostic tests which the warranty company say is plenty for just about everything. Most diagnostic work is plugging in a laptop and checking codes they told me. I found them very helpful and they said they cover all mechanical and electrical if not caused by water ingress. No wading then!

Once my LR extended warranty ran out (Sept '21) my 2017 L405, no one would renew it as it had over 100,000 miles on the clock. For the last 11 months, I've been putting a couple of hundred pounds away every month and I am pleased to say that nothing has gone wrong, apart from a few bushes that would have been dismissed as "wear & tear" items anyway!

My car has had a warranty in the fear that something would go expensively wrong but it’s now cost £3k in warranty and nothing in repairs. I did similar with my D4 by putting money in a car account in case of bad luck but just managed to save a shed load of cash. Maybe the poor reliability is a myth. I’ll get my coat.

Final “bill” from main dealer… just under £1800… all covered due to the LR Warranty.

That’s covered the cost of your warranty and then some. Good result.
