Sounds like the mechanism needs to be cleaned or lubricated.

Has the step located properly on the bracket? It has to sit in the square / oblong location point under the step and they can be a tight fit, if it’s not located it may foul on the sill. Failing that could be seized hinge pin, rear one is quite common. |

Yea it it however both sides didn’t not sit flat on the front and back points at the same time not sure if the warp or bend over time but I had to loosely put all 4 bolts in and slowly wind them down Current stable:

Dan, unscrew the bolts then give the steps a damn good hit downward (like your stepping on them) as im guessing they have not seated all the way home on the oblong plinth |

I think diesel Dave might be onto something here - the mechanism is obviously in the right place or the wiring wouldn’t reach but steps could easily have accidentally been swapped - that’s a job for this morning after my bike ride I think Current stable:

Im sure you cannot put them on backwards! They would interfere with the wheel! |

Nope Craig you can as I’ve just witnessed the opposite step from the opposite side was on. The locating pins are slap bang in the middle so it wouldn’t cause any harm. I loosened all the bolts out the step on tight then tightened up. No jamming but still the chuff chuff noise going up so took the step off and it still does it no step? Sprayed a load of copper grease everywhere... still the same put the step back on still the same.any ideas? It’s usable for now as it’s not jamming but that sound doesn’t sound too clever... Current stable:

I would take the step off again, there is a rod going from the motor to the rear bracket, it has a 10 mm bolt securing it just before the bracket. Remove the bolt and work the hinge by hand, if its the slightest bit tight that’s your problem, spray with duck oil or similar and work it by hand a million times till it’s free. I used to have to do mine after most winters to keep them working ok. You’ll be surprised how little resistance stops them operating properly. |

Well so far so good although it didn’t sound much better yesterday I think the grease may have worked in over night as it’s nearly back to normal today Current stable:
