So it´s a wrap and the car is back with whole new EGR including gaskets to the cooler and block as well as a new pipe that goes from the EGR to the inlet manifold.

The mechanic believes that the EGR failed because it was covered/filled with oil leaking from the gaskets both sides of the oil cooler. The gaskets were completely gone and snapped in half as soon as he bent them. Useful to keep in mind for those of you who have not had them changed!

Also replaced the famous o-rings and the upgraded 4 short inlet hoses.

New coolant and an oil change, which he insisted on, and hopefully I will be able to drive it for a few days before anything else breaks Banging Head

Mechanic estimates he spent around 20 hours all in all but was still kind enough to only charge me for the 11 hours he originally quoted me.

Land Rover has a standard charge for getting to the EGR.
I'd need to check my receipts but I think it's 9 hours labour and they charge about £1100.

Ive just had mine into landrover Unfortunately and they have Quoted me £1800 for the EGR and again he has said that's a 10Hour job Cam Tech was to busy Big Cry

Take it one of the other specialists around you e.g. Oval Autos, Alltrack, Coseley 4x4, James French.

Updated I have replaced the complete EGR unit proper bitch of a job but it did take me longer than the 11hours quoted by LR but they would have that manual and other items to hand. The total cost was almost £600 but that did include two oil changes, But after changing that I now have the following codes
P0409-16(27)
P0486-17(27)
P0403-13(27)
Any help would be greatfull and where the sensors would be to replace. Thumbs Up

Can you confirm you was leaking oil or Coolant .

The theory is now that the leak is coming from a steel pipe going from the EGR (couldn't understand exactly which one)

He has tried looking with a a camera but it´s too tight to see anything and the whole thing now needs to come out which apparently is a real PITA Sad

It was oil leaking at the back of the oil cooler and on the main gasket so I had done both and had changed the oil and water, because when you take of the oil the water mixes with the oil. Lesson learned drain oil and water first to stop crossing them over.
