Code readers and testers for the L405

Hi all. I'm looking at buying a code reader and would value any advice from current users. I know the GAP IDD tool is popular on here, I have also looked at the Autel MD808 PRO, has anyone used it?

I have an airbag light on at present, (yellow), it has been intermittent but is now staying on most of the time, or comes on while driving. My question is, will the IDD tool turn off airbag warnings on the L405, looking at the manual on line it seems to have limited capacity for the L405 when compared to the L322.

The Autel says it will turn off airbag lights and most other things if you read their write-ups. But I'd rather go off experienced users advice than someones sales advert.

Thanks Stan, will do as agreed I'd like it as safe as can be, I think it could even be a bad connection or wiring as it come and goes but no pattern to it.

not a L405 but my old td6 had an airbag light ptoblem and it turned out to be the occupancy sensor in the seat, replaced that and all was well.

it might be a thought to peruse the WM and try to identify where any 'checkable' connections might be . ... - .- -.

I had the light come on when i put the seat all the way down. Something to do with the wiring under the seat. Pushed all the plugs home as best I could and not come back since. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

A quick update. I ended up going for the Autel code reader MD806 pro, as it reads all cars not just LR. I must say I’m very impressed with it up to now. Airbag light was a bad connection on the drivers airbag, pointed me straight to it, the scanner even has graphs of all live data so you can compare variations , IE the airbags were all circa 2.5 ohms, except drivers airbag which was 7 ohms, you could then watch it fluctuate as you turn the steering wheel proving for sure where the issue lay. I’ve also registered a new battery in the system. Will update further as I use it and get used to how it works.
PS.
My brother in law has a RR sport so will come in handy there too. Thumbs Up

Just for clarity, you do NOT need to clear airbag faults on 405's... cycle the ignition and if the fault is fixed the light will off Thumbs Up

And airbag faults on 405's usually relate to wiring under seat Thumbs Up

Thanks Craig. That’s where I’ve been looking under the seats amongst other things but no luck, hence purchasing the tester, the one I had was very basic, engine codes only. I was surprised to find it on the steering wheel, the tool helped me by looking at the live values. I didn’t know they self reset on the 405 though, makes sense now why it was intermittent. Thumbs Up

Hello Dave,

Mostly this fault airbag light fault relates to the integrity of the connector under the drivers seat.

Please see the attachments showing a diagram and a photo, showing clear identification of the connector underneath the drivers seat.

The connector in question is C33-B2 which needs to be disconnected, check the pins, clean with contact cleaner / WD40 and reconnected ensuring a tight connection.

I hope this helps,
Peter

Thank you Peter, pretty sure I’ve found it in the steering column/drivers airbag. But if not I will definitely check that plug out. 🔌 Thumbs Up
Thanks Dave.

Quick update, was a bad connection, earth wire on the drivers airbag module was a lose fit. Cleaned and give it a quick squeeze with the pliers, all seems ok. Thanks for the replies and suggestions Thumbs Up
